Job Summary
This position will report directly to the Provincial Director of Risk Management. The incumbent will share responsibilities with other Risk Managers. The Risk Manager works closely with other members of the Quality, Accreditation and Risk Management Department, NLHS leaders, physician leaders, Legal Services, the insurer and other key partners. The candidate will function with a high degree of independence and accountability within the mandate, vision and values of NLHS. The successful candidate is highly committed to patient safety through embedding the risk management process throughout the organization. Travel throughout the region and flexible work hours will be required. Providing coverage for other zones is required.
Key Responsibilities
To continue the development, implementation and evaluation of a comprehensive provincial risk management program as per the NLHS Integrated Risk Management Framework with Strategic Planning alignment.
To provide ongoing direction and advice on strategic and operational risks to senior leaders, physicians, staff and legal services.
To manage NLHS's Risk Register and support regular reporting to applicable board committees.
To provide expertise and consultation on emerging risk issues.
To complete formal risk assessments and consultations as requested by program leadership.
To facilitate and support risk-informed decision making for the organization's leadership.
To implement and coordinate the Risk Assessment Checklist program, providing support to programs and teams.
To communicate and provide education on risk management to increase risk management capacity in the organization.
Utilize NLHS data (e.g. occurrence report trending, claims trending, etc.) to support risk identification
Facilitate access to legal services for identified risk issues.
To advise and support organizational leaders on risk management matters including evidence- based risk mitigation strategies.
Liaise with the insurer, HIROC.
Coordination of requests from external agencies (e.g Auditor General, Office of the Child and Youth Advocate, Office of the Senior's Advocate, etc).
To coordinate and facilitate the claims management process.
Job Qualifications
Education
Master's Degree preferred in health related field.
Experience
Five (5) years' experience in the last seven (7) years in a health care management position, including two (2) years' experience in risk management.
Previous experience related to working with Boards and external agencies.
Working knowledge of applicable healthcare legislation (Patient Safety Act, Provincial Health Authority Act, Medical Staff By-Laws, etc.), statutory requirements and professional practice standards
Leadership training.

Demonstrated strong leadership abilities, facilitation skills, initiative, analytical and problem-solving skills.
