DUTIES
Reporting to the Manager, Pensions, the successful applicant will perform responsible professional work in the administration of the Memorial University Pension Plan. Duties include performing analysis and reconciliation of pension accounts, including investment income and solvency payments; working closely with the office of the Chief Information Officer and pension system vendor (Telus) on system development and maintenance issues; liaising with investment managers, consultants and custodians as necessary, and acting as the primary contact for all audit and accounting issues; preparing annual financial statements and noting disclosure for audit; preparing journal entries; preparing and filing annual HST rebate, SLFI, W-BENE, and T3P tax returns; monitoring changes to legislation, assessing impact, and recommending updates to policies, procedures, and associated systems where applicable; responding to external requests for information; consulting with the Actuary on a regular basis; compiling data for annual pension valuations; advising the Office of the Chief Financial Officer on movements of large amounts of money to accommodate rebalancing or large pension refunds, preparing the rebalancing schedule, and verifying/preparing supplier and investment management fee invoices for payment; monitoring cash flow; coordinating the annual pension adjustment and pension adjustment reversal process; reviewing pensions and refunds for payment; facilitating and processing pension divisions; acting as primary contact for surveys or benchmark analysis on pensions regionally and nationally; and performing other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience (5-7 years) in the area of accounting and financial management; completion of an Undergraduate degree in Business with a concentration in accounting/finance, supplemented by a Chartered Professional Accounting designation, is required; or any equivalent combination of experience and training may be considered. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical, research, and communication skills. Completion of the Canadian Securities Course will be considered an asset.
SALARY $66,092 - $90,126 per annum (Management and Professional)
