The Opportunity We are currently seeking an Engineer in Training (EIT) to join our Mines Technical Services Team in Thompson, Manitoba. This is a permanent full-time position located on site in Thompson, Manitoba. As an Engineer in Training – Mine Planner you will be responsible for the design and execution of the 3-month plan, which is used to achieve production targets and creating drill blast layouts for the operations. The incumbent will work collaboratively with their peers in the engineering team and cross functionally with all other areas of the operations. Additionally, in this position you will:
  • Design stopes using Deswik mine design software and ensure that backfill of stopes is planned and issued.
  • Produce ITH drill hole layout.
  • Produce blast design including issuing blast letters, clearing and guarding notifications, and hold pre-blast meetings.
  • Design development for accessing the ore body.
  • Ensure that ventilation systems are designed and issued for installation in your area.
  • Ensure power and drainage systems are designed for your area.
  • Economic assessment of stopes and recommend improvements to engineering designs.
  • Manage projects such as mine improvement and infrastructure replacement.

About You Education:
  • Undergraduate Degree in Mining Engineering or Geological Engineering
Experience:
  • 2 years of underground mining experience is an asset, however EITs with less experience or new graduates are encouraged to apply.
Skills:
  • Expert knowledge of MS office Products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Experience with 3D mine design software (Deswik preferred)
  • Solid understanding of project management principles.
  • Strong verbal, written and analytical communication skills.
