STUDENT AFFAIRS & SERVICES

The primary purpose of Student Affairs & Services (SAS) is to support students in achieving their academic, personal, and life goals. In keeping with this, SAS develops and delivers a wide range of programs and services that enhance and contribute to the student experience and the learning environment. Individually and collectively, SAS Divisions contribute directly to the University's goal of transformative educational experiences, innovative programs, and commitment to experiential learning.

Full-time | Continuing | Fredericton OR Saint John | On Campus

Standard Work Hours: Mon - Fri | 8:15 am - 4:30 pm | 36.25 hours per week

Additional Working Conditions:

  • After-hours commitments at times and long hours during peak periods.
  • Expected to be available during emergencies and crises.

Salary Range: $63,327 - $86,308 per annum

YOUR FOCUS

Reporting to the Senior Director, Student Affairs, the Manager, Student Success identifies, develops, delivers, and manages programs and services that support current and incoming students in achieving their goals. This position evaluates and reports on service utilization and outcomes for all programs and using data to inform future efforts. The Manager evaluates the current structure and suite of programming offered, makes recommendations and oversees any changes, enhancements, or additions. The Manager has supervisory responsibility for Student Affairs & Services Student Success department staff.

  • Provide institutional leadership on student engagement and success.
  • Remain current with and share emerging developments, trends, and technologies relevant to student academic success.
  • Initiate policy and procedures revisions and changes to meet changing needs.
  • Collaborate with faculty and advisors in the development of faculty/department level student success programs.
  • Represent and promote the Student Success team both within the university community and externally.
  • Prepare statistical, budget, and other operational related information and reports as required.
  • Provide developmental leadership to professional and student staff.
  • Recruit, hire, mentor, and administer performance evaluation.
  • Supervise staff workflows to adjust to peak periods. Ensure succession planning and cross-training.
  • Lead the development, coordination, promotion and evaluation of academic support and student development programming.
  • Conceptualize and guide the development of new initiatives, both within the department and across the University, to aid in student success and persistence.
  • Provide advice and support to faculty and staff in the development of faculty/department level student success programs.
  • Make decisions around resource allocation using defined metrics and KPI's.
  • Prepare annual budget for submission to the Senior Director, Student Affairs.
  • Manage day to day expenditures within approved budget.
  • Prepare and submit funding proposals to outside agencies.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • University degree, preferably in a relevant area such as education, leadership, or counselling.
  • 5+ years of directly related experience.

Additional Strengths

  • Master's degree is an asset.
  • Experience in development and implementation of student/client-centric programming and services resulting in measurable and sustained student persistence and satisfaction.
  • Experience in strategic planning, budget management, and risk management.
  • Knowledge of student affairs and strategic enrollment management standards, trends, and best practices.
  • Collaborative leadership, communication, and consensus-building skills.
  • Team building and conflict resolution skills. Ability to create an environment that encourages innovation.
  • Organizational, administrative, and interpersonal skills. Strength in managing multiple priorities and complex tasks.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Effective fiscal management and budgeting skills.
  • Ability to shift readily between macro-strategic issues and critical details.
  • Ability to function independently in the role with proven decision making and problem-solving skills.
