Responsibilities:

Reporting to our Director, Network Design Engineering, this position is responsible for establishing and maintaining company-wide outside plant (OSP) technical design standards and construction packages. OSP architectures will be fiber and coax-based and any other architecture required to deliver the next generation of products to consumers. You will evolve the OSP engineering process to include new tools and methods, including the use and integration of GIS, software, and other data-oriented tools. As well as the corresponding processes and standards required to support the evolution of the engineering discipline. Additionally, this role will focus on the collaborative process and relationship building with vendors and all internal functional teams and business units. You will build and maintain organizational alignment with the rest of the business in support of the company's key performance measures. You will lead efforts to drive cost efficiency and quality into the OSP engineering function. Additional duties include:

  • Develop, manage, and provide leadership to your team engaged in designing, engineering, and building outside plant projects. This includes setting or affirming the scope, budget, and timeline for outside plant projects and coordinating work efforts and products with other engineering functions and /or external third parties.
  • Provide overall direction and leadership for all design and engineering requirements consistent with the needs of the business, including adaption to a variety of new and evolving fibre and coax-base architectures. This includes developing and improving outside plant engineering standards, processes, procedures, tools, software and datasets, inventory and records, and adherence to budget and financial controls.
  • Participate in approving and monitoring the full outside plant projects' capital and operating expenses. Directly use the corporate financial system and other project management or workflow software and prepare/provide appropriate reports for stakeholders.
  • Help with the preparation of the outside plant's capital project budgets. This includes working with Project Managers and the Procurement team to obtain optimal pricing from OSP contractors and consultants.
  • Stay current in regulatory, industry, and technological developments to assist in the decision-making process relative to the company and its business units.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or formal training in an Electronics/Electrical Program from a recognizable institution and/or relevant work experience
  • 5-10 years minimum experience with construction as well as RF and Fiber design
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite as well as AutoCAD/CableCAD
  • Proven experience managing groups
  • Understanding of technical requirements for system operation and maintenance
  • Knowledge of existing and emerging technologies related to FTTH, telecommunications and infrastructures
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects while working within a fast-paced, deadline driven environment
  • Strong communicator
  • Exceptional analytical skills
  • Must be a self-starter, flexible and adaptable to change
  • Effective skills in solving, anticipating, preventing and identifying problems
  • Valid driver’s license with satisfactory driving record required
