The Opportunity
As a key member of our Senior Leadership Team, you will bring a strategic vision and leadership to the Company's legal function. In this role, you will be a trusted advisor to the executive and senior management teams on all legal matters.
Reporting directly to the Vice President, Finance & Chief Financial Officer, your key responsibilities will include:
- Advising and supporting senior leadership in making informed decisions by assessing legal and regulatory risks and impacts;
- Providing expert legal counsel on corporate law, regulation, procurement, human resources, financing, and other key areas;
- Ensuring compliance with legislative requirements through the oversight of regulatory filings and serving as a critical liaison with regulatory bodies;
- Preparing for regulatory proceedings and collaborating with external legal counsel during litigated matters;
- Supporting the Board of Directors on corporate governance practices;
- Leading the legal team to implement strategies and achieve organizational objectives.
Qualifications:
- Law Degree (LLB or JD) from a recognized institution, and membership in the Law Society of Newfoundland and Labrador;
- 10-15 years of experience in legal, regulatory, and governance roles;
- Certified In-House Counsel Canada (CIC.C) designation or equivalent, prior in-house counsel experience, and industry experience in the electric utility sector are assets.
Skills and Attributes:
- Exceptional communication and analytical abilities;
- Strong business acumen with deep knowledge of corporate and administrative law;
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills, capable of leading in a multidisciplinary environment;
- Motivated, results-driven, and skilled at influencing decisions in a fast-paced, dynamic setting.
