Northwood is currently accepting applications for a RN Long Term Care - Educator - Halifax Campus

Reporting to the Clinical Practice Manager, Long Term Care

Major Responsibilities:

  • Assesses, plans, coordinates, implements, and delivers education programs in consultation with respective Leaders
  • Acts as a resource to staff regarding professional and personal development in keeping with the overall philosophy and education needs of Northwood
  • Provides support to staff including clinical support to nursing staff
  • Maintains and promotes adherence to safety procedures; participates in safety training and co-operates with any person involved in making the Northwood community a safe and healthy environment

Tasks:

  • Understands, supports, and promotes the Client/Resident Care Standards
  • Maintains personal and professional development and continued competency
  • Promotes the delivery of a person centered approach to care
  • Facilitates departmental specific orientation as appropriate
  • Works with staff to develop learning plans for new and existing staff and provides opportunities to meet identified learning needs
  • Provides formal and informal clinical education
  • Coordinates and maintains regular communication with preceptors
  • Coordinates student placements
  • Participates in and promotes professional development/education meeting the mandatory requirements
  • Develops department educational plans in consultation with department leaders
  • Participates in the development of organization wide education plan based on needs assessment
  • Represents the organization and the department to the community, other health care agencies, educational facilities and professional organizations as the opportunities occur
  • Develops and maintains communication links with multiple internal and external clients
  • Maintains records, compiles and analyzes data and prepares reports on education initiatives
  • Incorporates use of technology in alternate delivery methodology
  • Attends relevant education sessions to promote own professional and personal development
  • Represents the organization and the department to the community, other health care agencies, educational facilities and professional organizations as the opportunities occur
  • Develops/reviews current education department policies, procedures, and processes
  • Attends relevant education sessions to promote own professional and personal development
  • Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of departmental goals and objectives
  • Develops/reviews current education department policies, procedures and processes
  • Participates in Quality Improvement activities
  • Works with others to create and maintain a safe and healthy environment
  • Performs other duties as required

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing
  • Registered Nurse - Province of Nova Scotia with active license
  • Degree or certificate in Adult Education or equivalent knowledge and experience
  • Five years experience in a health related field (preferably continuing care)
  • Three to five years adult education/teaching experience
  • Three to five years of relevant work experience in the planning and delivery of education programs
  • Three to five years of relevant work experience in the implementing and evaluation of staff development programs
  • Proficient in the use of computers and technology as it relates to education and teaching
  • Valid Nova Scotia Driver's license and access to a motor vehicle required
  • Knowledge of the following: Adult Education Principles, Microsoft Office, Education, Principles of Professional Development, Understanding of trends and best practices in Nursing, Healthcare and related fields.
  • Must have strong Coaching/Facilitation, Communication, Presentation, Organizational skills.
  • Must have the following attributes: Patience, Professional, Positive Attitude, Respectful, Supportive, Compassionate, Dependable and Ethical
  • Possess the following abilities: Confidentiality, Follow Employer Policies, and Social Sensitivity

Salary: As per Northwood Scale

Hours: 80 hours bi-weekly - must be flexible - occasional evening/weekends

Start Date: October 2024
