At WorkplaceNL, we provide compensation and support to injured workers and their employers during recovery, rehabilitation, and safe return to work. We also work with employers, employees, health care providers, stakeholders, and our community partners to provide occupational health and safety education and help prevent workplace injuries and illnesses in the province.

Role Responsibilities

We are currently looking for a director to lead our teams responsible for ensuring injured workers receive benefits to which they are entitled, while facilitating recovery from workplace injuries, and supporting timely return to work.

Reporting to the Vice President of Prevention and Workplace Services, this role will guide the development, implementation and evaluation of strategies, policies, objectives, and performance metrics - to ensure injured workers are provided with quality services that promote recovery and safe return to work.

Some key responsibilities of the Director of Case Management include:

  • Overseeing the day-to-day running of all operations within the department.
  • Developing, attracting, retaining, motivating and supervising an effective management team to achieve objectives.
  • Involving key stakeholders, workers and employers in proactive early and safe return to work initiatives, effective claims management and workplace safety.
  • Overseeing technology advancements (and other projects) to ensure teams are successful in integrating systems and operational practices that help modernize service delivery.
  • Creating benchmarks and setting evidence-based outcomes that mobilize teams to enhance delivery and impact change, while communicating results.
  • Ensuring timely action with relevant parties, to respond to, and impact change.
  • Adopting a continuous improvement approach to assessing and evaluating programs and services, with a focus on improving efficiency and removing non-value-added activities.
  • Travel is required.

Ideal qualifications

  • A university degree in a social science, health care, business, public administration, commerce, or a similar discipline, preferably at the master's level.
  • Five or more years of experience in a leadership role, with management capacity to effectively work in a team environment.
  • Strong leadership abilities and exceptional interpersonal communication and planning abilities - including five years of management experience.
  • Ability to think strategically, analytically and use good judgement in providing oversight and solutions to support the delivery of public services.
  • Skilled problem solver with the ability to manage issues and work independently.
  • Experience implementing key performance indicators, and using evidence to inform change.
  • Strong communication skills and abilities - both oral and written.
