Position Description

Reporting to the Director, Accessibility and Student Wellness, the Student Support Coordinator assumes primary responsibility for coordinating the implementation of support services for students registered with the Meighen Centre. Primary responsibility will be leading and coordinating the test accommodation and note-taking programs for the Centre. This position may require irregular hours of work.

Position Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate the scheduling, supervision, and organization of test and exam accommodations in the Meighen Centre, which includes but is not limited to:
    • organizing, scheduling and setting up tests/exams to be written in the Meighen Centre
    • leading invigilation and hiring/training/supervising/arranging for payment of student invigilators as needed
    • serving as the primary contact for faculty, staff and students for questions related to set up for tests/exams written in the Meighen Centre
    • arranging for the pick up and drop off of tests and exams written in the Meighen Centre
    • readying assistive technologies as required
  • Lead and coordinate the note taker program for students registered with the Meighen Centre, which includes but is not limited to:
    • Recruiting and training note takers
    • Matching note takers to students needing a note taker
    • Maintaining comprehensive note taker records
    • Providing feedback to note takers when necessary
    • Arranging for payment of note takers
    • Keeping close track of note taker budgets so as not to overspend
  • Liaise with Disability Services Advisors to implement proper test accommodations for Meighen Centre students
  • Maintain appropriate case notes in student files
  • Report on test, exam and note-taking services utilized by students registered with the Meighen Centre
  • Play an active role in the collaborative/integrated model of care for students registered with the Meighen Centre
  • Undertake professional development in the field of disabilities as the budget permits
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications/skills

  • Bachelor's degree (preferably a B.Ed. or a B.S.W., or a related field)
  • Previous experience working at a post-secondary institution in the area of disability services preferred
  • Experience with assistive technology (e.g. reading software, speech-to-text, etc.)
  • Skills and experience in using administrative technologies (e.g. MS Office, OneDrive, etc.)
  • Ability to assume a high degree of initiative and innovation
  • Must be able to maintain a high level of confidentiality with student information
  • Ability to respond effectively in crisis situations with tact and diplomacy
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Ability to work irregular hours
