Casual LPN

The Maritime Odd Fellows Home is a 47 Bed Long Term Care Facility located in the town of Pictou, overlooking picturesque Pictou Harbour. The Odd Fellows Home has a long history providing quality care to our valued Residents and is in need of a Casual LPN to join our care team.

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) utilizes the nursing process, critical thinking and problem solving skills to provide holistic care to individuals, families, and groups. The LPN is responsible for planning nursing care in an assigned area as required by individualized Resident needs and according to dependent and independent nursing functions while adhering to recognized nursing techniques, procedures, and established standards based on the scope of practical nursing, under the direction of the Registered Nurse.

The LPN contributes to the efficient and effective functioning of the Home, coordination of Resident care and staffing. The LPN accepts responsibility for maintaining and continually enhancing competencies through ongoing professional development including participation in education programs, research and continuous quality activities. The LPN practices according to the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Nova Scotia Code of Ethics for Licensed Practical Nurses, Standards of Nursing Practice, specialty standards as applicable and the policies and procedures of the Maritime Odd Fellows Home. Working collaboratively as a member of the health care team by respecting and acknowledging the roles of all those within the healthcare system in contributing to safe, competent and ethical care, the LPN provides Resident-centred care that responds appropriately to the physiological, psychological, social, cultural, and spiritual needs.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Successful completion of Physical Assessment and Pharmacology certifications
  • Current certificate of registration with CLPNNS
  • Recent Long Term Care experience preferred
  • Experience caring for individuals with dementia an asset
  • Current CPR certification
  • Demonstrated clinical skills
  • Effective communication skills
  • Current Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector
