The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Geologist in Training (GIT) to join our Geology-Mines Exploration team on site in Thompson, Manitoba.

This is a permanent full-time position.

As a Geologist in Training, you will have the opportunity to further your development by providing day-to-day support for various projects and initiatives within the Geology Department.

Additionally in this position you will:

  • Assist in the preparation of diamond drill layouts and data management, including logging associated core.
  • Geotechnical logging; including taking structural measurements such as strike, dip, joint spacing, infilling, alterations, smoothness etc.
  • Provide geological section generation and geological interpretation, and target generation.
  • Provide support to the Thompson Mine Operations, which could include but not limited to, underground mapping and structural measurements.
  • Provide technical support and collaboration with geological, engineering and other disciplines.
  • Follow Vale safety policies, procedures, protocol, guidelines, best practices and government regulations at all times.
  • Identify, analyze and recommend opportunities for safety, productivity and cost improvements.
  • Carry out specific accountabilities as assigned by the Chief Geologist.

About You

Education:

  • The ideal candidate will possess an undergraduate degree in Geology.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 2 years of related experience in a mining or exploration environment would be an asset.

Skills:

  • Knowledge of modern exploration methods, strategy, technology, and mining.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 products to include Teams, Word, Excel, Outlook. Basic to intermediate understanding of Datamine Studio 3 and Deswik software is preferred.
  • Strong verbal, written and analytical communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ensure compliance to the applicable regulations, standards and guidelines.
  • Utilize good geological practices while minimizing costs.
  • Complete assigned projects safely and on time
