Title : Manager, Integrated and Emergency Communications

Employee Working Location : Partially Virtual / Hybrid (Montréal, QC)

Employment Status : Permanent Full-time

Salary Band : $78,542 - $82,000 / year

In this role, you will :

Responsibility 1 - Team Management

  • Actively contribute to orientations that strengthen commitment and inspire action in emergency humanitarian responses and community resilience in Quebec and within the Canadian francophonie.
  • Ensure the development, implementation and monitoring of the team's common and individual objectives.
  • Act as a leader and facilitator for team members, ensuring the coordination of priorities and structuring of tasks.
  • Contribute to budget planning and follow-ups.
  • Act as interim Communications Manager, as needed.
  • Be on-call alternating with other team members to monitor traditional and/or social media outside of working hours.
  • Represent the Communications Director and participate in various meetings in Quebec and Canada based on needs identified by the Director or Vice President.

Responsibility 2 - Integrated Communications

  • Define proactive and responsive integrated communications strategies in support of the strategic and operational priorities of the Red Cross in Quebec and within the Canadian francophonie, lead their implementation and assess their impacts.
  • Ensure that all communication channels (traditional, print, digital, social, etc.) are explored and used in an optimal manner.
  • Ensure that the communication strategies, messages and tactics support the organization's vision and national and Quebec communications plans and maintain or strengthen the organization's image and reputation.
  • Act as a strategic communications advisor to members of the Quebec leadership team, notably to promote the added value of communications and to increase organizational capacity for strategic communications in Quebec.
  • Facilitate Communications leadership employee and volunteer engagement, communicate their vision and work with other teams to create a sense of belonging for all employees and volunteers of the organization.
  • Guide, structure, write, revise and publish communications content as required.

Responsibility 3 - Emergency Response Communications

  • Act, in collaboration with the director, Communications, as the communications lead within the Provincial Disaster Coordination Team (PDCT) during provincial disaster responses to develop and disseminate appeal messaging and other communications tools to provide accurate and timely public information.
  • Provide strategic communications guidance and support to the Provincial Operations team as required, including all aspects of reactive and proactive media relations.
  • In collaboration with the Senior Director, Operations, provide on-site or remote support to emergency response operations (crisis management, content gathering, high level field visits, communications training, and media relations) as required.

What we are looking for :

  • University degree in communications, marketing, public relations or a related field.
  • Minimum of five to seven years of relevant experience in developing and implementing integrated communications strategies through a variety of channels; specific experience in social media management, media relations, crisis or emergency communications and content creation.
  • Minimum of two years' experience in personnel management and general knowledge of HR processes, team and individual performance, coaching and budget management.
  • Experience in coordinating projects and initiatives (project coordination, schedule and deliverables management, task structuring and monitoring).
  • Excellent understanding of digital ecosystems and content strategies.
  • Very good knowledge of writing and narrative principles.
  • Understanding and experience of process management from a practical perspective (prioritizing what is feasible and planning what can be done later).
  • Willingness and availability to travel to large scale emergency response sites as required.
  • Knowledge of humanitarian, public and philanthropic issues.
  • Bilingualism (English/French), with excellent spoken and written French.
  • Creativity, curiosity, thoroughness, self-sufficiency, initiative, and good judgment.
  • Strong organization, analytical, planning, and prioritization skills.
  • Excellent teamwork, interpersonal, and consulting skills, with the ability to help foster a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Proactive and results-oriented approach.
  • Ability to embrace change, as well as communicate and present a vision and how to get there (creativity, curiosity).
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and in collaboration with many stakeholders.
  • Excellent listening skills and the ability to influence people with different viewpoints.

  • This is a full-time professional position based in Quebec, with remote work when required by public health guidance and circumstances.
  • The incumbent will have to participate in communications monitoring and on-call duty nights and weekend, as needed.
  • During emergencies, schedules may be atypical.
