Casual Position: Commencing approximately October 2024.

Application deadline is 11:59 PM, September 30, 2024.

Salary Range: $25.00 hourly, up to 13.5 hours/week

This position is required to work in person, remotely, or a combination of both. Access to a computer with Internet access is required (if you are able to tutor virtually).

Responsabilités

Reporting to the Manager, Student Services and under the functional guidance and support of the Student Services Advisor, Indigenous Supports:, you will be responsible for supporting the academic development of Indigenous students. Through one-on-one tutoring session with students, Indigenous tutors will help NSCC students improve their skill and understanding in a particular subject, while building their study skills. You must be willing to participate in training sessions, as well as be able to work evenings, lunch hours and weekends.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Occupational Experience:

  • You possess a university degree, college diploma or are currently enrolled in postsecondary education.
  • Recent tutoring experience, preferably with adults, would be considered an asset.
  • Academic proficiency in one or more academic subjects.
  • An understanding and/or willingness to learn about Canada's Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action and barriers Indigenous students face in the community college setting.
  • You are a positive, enthusiastic, team player.
  • You possess excellent communication skills.
  • You have experience using computer applications such as Microsoft Office 365 (especially Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams), and video conferencing (including live chat).
  • Experience or an interest in learning and tutoring. This might be demonstrated by working with students in tutoring or any other related leadership roles.

Relevant Skills and Knowledge

  • Good judgment, including analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Initiative, and ability to work with limited supervision.
  • Flexibility in performance of duties and ability to adjust schedule with limited notice.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, diplomacy, and confidentiality.
