Nursing Homes Without Walls Coordinator Position

DREW NURSING HOME

An opening is available for a full time Coordinator for the Nursing Homes Without Walls Program. This position is for a one-year term, with potential to continue.

The successful candidate will work at the Drew Nursing Home.

Role and Responsibilities

Support the development of and execute a community outreach program for the older population (60 years and older) to meet the objectives of the project. The community includes the greater Tantramar area.

The objectives are to:

  • ensure that seniors and their families/friends/neighbours have access to appropriate services and information related to aging in place;
  • provide social health initiatives to counter social isolation and loneliness to seniors and their caregivers;
  • increase knowledge on health-related issues important to aging in place and healthy aging for seniors and their caregivers;
  • empower the local community to respond to the needs of an aging population.

Support the evaluation of how social and built environments can foster healthy aging by creating and implementing evaluation tools and reports on initiatives carried out. Initiatives include:

  1. Providing services and support options needed for aging in place based on the premise of the NB Home First Strategy and the NB Strategy on Aging/Family Plan.
  2. Developing programs that address social isolation.
  3. Providing health promotion opportunities.
  4. Providing a supportive community environment for seniors and their caregivers.
  5. Disseminating information that supports aging in place.

Work within the principles of:

  • Respecting the contributions of seniors, their families and the community.
  • Encouraging seniors to take charge of their health through wellness and lifelong learning.
  • Encouraging independence and choices for seniors.

Additional Notes

Business hours are typically 8am - 4pm, however, some weekends and evenings will be required.

This position includes working as a part of a team.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

College or University education in such areas as health care, project management, business management, and/or health and well-being studies related to the position.

Preferred Skills

  • Good knowledge of aging, age-friendly communities and resources as well as issues relating to the older population.
  • Thorough understanding of performance measurement and evaluation.
  • Thorough understanding of project management.
  • Excellent self-motivation and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal and the ability to build positive relations and collaborations.
  • Ability to present information to individuals and groups.
