Site Description: Shops at Don Mills is located at Don Mills and Lawrence Avenue East in Toronto, Ontario. With 72 stores, this is a lifestyle shopping centre. Anchored around fashion, dining and entertainment, Shops at Don Mills makes shopping a delight.
Working on assigned shifts, you will provide proactive and reactive security patrols and response to incidents. You will be required to write reports and investigate routine incidents, as well as respond to emergencies in a quick and efficient manner.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assist the Site Supervisor with day-to-day reporting and daily operations
- Assist in leading a team of 2-6 guards.
- Must have strong leadership skills
- Must demonstrate strong interpersonal skills
- Must demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills
- Maintain compliance with and enforce property standards, rules, and regulations in a reasonable manner
- Able to use tact and diplomacy in dealings across a range of settings and situations
- Respond to medical emergencies and provide first aid, CPR, or AED support until medical professionals arrive
- Ability to maintain and enforce access control procedures
- Solid understanding of emergency and standard operating procedures
- Deal with trespassers and unauthorized persons found on the property, fairly and safely, by enforcing the Trespass to Property Act
- Assist with Fire & Life Safety inspections
- Maintain a detailed memo book and prepare incident reports on all matters dealt with using CF's standard report-writing program
- Conduct periodic patrols of property either by foot or by vehicle.
- Investigate incidents and occurrences
- Draft detailed incident and occurrence reports
- Maintain the peace, safety, and security of all patrons, and clients on the property
- Monitor CCTV surveillance systems
- De-escalate emergency / crisis situations
- Assist emergency and law enforcement personnel
- Access control, line management, customer service
- Assist with daily operations as needed/required or directed.
- Must be comfortable working both indoors and outdoors as needed in changing environments.
- Must be able to conduct extensive patrols both on foot and by vehicle. (Standing, and walking, for an extended period is required)
- Other duties as outlined by management
- Must be willing and able to stand, walk, patrol by foot and vehicle for extended periods (8-12 hours)
- Must demonstrated a high degree of professionalism
- Must have 1 year of leadership/ supervisory experience or equivalent*
- Must have at least 2 years of mall security or relevant experience
- Must have a G-class driver's license with a clear driver's abstract.
- Must be willing and able to provide a recent and valid vulnerable sector check, criminal background check, and driver's abstract as required.
- Must have strong verbal and written communication skills
- Must have a strong command and fluency in the English language both written and verbal
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced dynamic environment both indoors and outdoors as required.
- Must be able to handle stress and pressure and make a sound decision under duress
- Must be conformable working in a busy highly populated area
- Must have a clean driver abstract
- Must demonstrate high attention to detail / observational awareness
- Must demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence and the ability to work productively and efficiently in a team

- At the time of the interview applicant must be able to produce proof of completion of the following prerequisites:
- A Valid Ontario Security Guard License
- Must possess a valid Standard First Aid and CPR certification (WSIB-approved). Please note, this is different from Level C or Emergency First Aid certification.
- 2 COVID-19 Vaccinations proof
- Proficient in English (both oral and written)
- Must be able to commute to Toronto for pre-deployment training (4 training days M-F)
- Must be able to provide certifications in Use of Force (UoF) and Management of Aggressive Behaviour (MOAB) from ASP provider. Other security providers different than the ASP will not be allowed and applicant will have to enroll into Paladin's UoF/MOAB training program prior to their onboarding training to ensure they meet the requirements of the position.
- Please be aware: The UoF/MOAB training is not paid as it is a pre-requisite, however Paladin will cover all of the costs of the training and will provide you with their certification upon succesful completion with a 6 month commitment to the position availability.
