Meridia Recruitment Solutions has partnered with Westwood Construction, to recruit a Project Manager to join their expanding construction team in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Our client is a multi-faceted organization involved in commercial and residential land development, acquisitions, construction and property management. Over the past 30 years, Westwood has developed more than a thousand residential units, and they continue to lead some of the most high-profile developments in Halifax like The Mills and Richmond Yards, actively shaping the future landscape of a growing city within the beautiful province of Nova Scotia.

Role Description:
The Project Manager will play a critical role in the successful execution of a number of exciting projects, from concept to completion. This includes preparing tenders and coordinating activities to ensure efficient job site operations, arranging work and materials well enough in advance to avoid schedule delays, as well as preparing estimates and take-off, and following up on quotes and RFI's. You will also be responsible for monitoring project progress and attending site meetings as needed.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Establish Preconstruction in Progress (PIP) forms, KPI's, and monthly project updates, in collaboration with project team(s);
  • Lead preconstruction planning activities, such as document control, construction schedules, procurement, and logistics;
  • Complete project estimates, preliminary budgets, tender package development, and request/receive subcontractor tender proposals;
  • Obtain all relevant permits and local authority permission to build;
  • Price and process change orders, as well as the approval of shop drawings;
  • Collaborate with the Superintendent and Project Coordinator on an ongoing basis to ensure that schedules are aligned;
  • Promote on-site best practices to ensure project health, safety, and environmental standards meet legislative requirements and company policy;
  • Lead the project close-out process, including a close-out report, final purchase orders, and any other outstanding charges;
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with client(s), consultant(s), sub-trades and suppliers;
  • Other duties as assigned/required.

Your Qualifications:
As the ideal candidate, you are an energetic self-starter who is passionate about construction and enjoys the process of how projects come together. You are comfortable working in a demanding and fast-paced environment and have a proven ability to manage competing priorities to ensure that projects remain on time and on budget. Lastly, you are excited by the opportunity to work on some of Halifax's most prestigious developments.

Qualifications include:

  • 7+ years' of experience in a Project Manager/Senior Project Coordinator role, or equivalent, ideally working on ICI projects;
  • Post-secondary education in engineering or construction management;
  • Eligible for, or have attained E.I.T., P. Eng., CET, or PQS designations;
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and meet the time demands of unpredictable activities; capable of handling pressure and challenges in a dynamic business environment;
  • Effective analytical, critical thinking, troubleshooting, problem-solving skills, coupled with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both in a verbal and written capacity;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, experience using MS Projects would be an asset;
  • Understanding of BIM/VDC would be considered an asset.
