Temporary part-time positions are available in the Niagara region.
Time frame: School Calendar Year (September to June) with an option to renew.
Job Summary:
The School Nurse is responsible for supporting medically fragile children and their families in the community. As a School Nurse, you will provide complex pediatric nursing care within a school setting and at times before and after school in the child's home.
The successful candidate will work throughout the school calendar year except on all school holidays and PD days.
Candidates with pediatric experience are preferred.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain accurate client clinical records
  • Communicates and participates as full member of the health care team
  • Provide leadership in own professional development
  • Participate in CNO Reflective Practice
  • Knowledge of VON policies and procedures
  • Provide clinical leadership
  • Other duties as assigned
External and Internal Relationships:
  • Engages regularly with clients, their families and caregivers.
  • Provides education and support to engage clients and families in independence
  • Participates actively with other healthcare professional organizations and the community to promote nursing best practices
Education, Designations and Experience:
  • Registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification will be requested
  • Experience working with pediatric clients is preferred
  • Experience in community health an asset.
Skill Requirements:
  • Knowledge of community resources an asset
  • Excellent assessment, teaching, problem solving and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt nursing practice to operating independently in a variety of situations
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team
Other:
  • Must have personal vehicle and possess both a current driver's license and proof of vehicle insurance
  • A current and original copy of a satisfactory Criminal Records Check
  • A Vulnerable Sector Search and/or a Child Abuse Registry Check may be required
  • The use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be required
Working conditions and physical demands: This role requires a detail-oriented approach in a dynamic environment, with physical activity including lifting, carrying (using proper techniques), bending, reaching, kneeling, and other movements that emphasize good body mechanics. Individuals in the role are required to walk, sit, stand, and climb stairs throughout the day, with some tasks requiring fine hand movements.
