Contributes to the overall success of the Payments and Core Banking in Canada ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team's business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures. Responsible for developing Integration and abstraction layer for GBP data models, the candidate must be knowledgeable and have professional experience in frameworks such as Spark and GCP. The applicant must demonstrate leadership abilities, adapt to multiple challenges, with a track record on delivering quality solutions. The candidate will implement code using Spark (Scala/Python) to manipulate store data from sources into GCP

  • Participate in the implementation of data engineering and transformation design to ensure highly scalable, extensible, and performant solutions.

  • Contribute to the delivery of data ingestion, transformation and extraction solutions in Enterprise big data platform (EDL, GCP)

  • Hands-on development supporting Data integration, Analytics and Cloud environments.

  • Support existing data ingestion and data transformation solutions in the production

  • Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

  • Self learner and problem solver with a commitment to delivery quality of work

  • Good technical and interpersonal communication skills

  • Knowledge on IT frameworks such as Agile and ITIL is preferred

  • Experience in financial institutions and payment systems is highly desirable.

  • Experience and understanding of Data Lineage concepts.

  • Hands on experience in following the iterative and agile SDLC

  • Experience in end to end code delivery i.e. requirements gathering, code development, unit testing, deployment

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have:

  • At least 1 year of experience/familiarity in working with Big data

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience working with any ETL tool

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with Java, Python and Spark

  • 5+ years of software development (SDLC)

  • Experience in Agile Scrum/Kanban methodology is an asset

  • Production support experience is an asset

  • Working experience with DevOps and running Jenkins pipelines (nice to have)

  • Strong communication and presentation skills

  • Basic RDBMS skills and experience (Oracle OR SQL Server)

  • Hands-on experience with Unix/Linux Command Line Interface (CLI)

  • Experience with code repository, version control and code promotion tools such as Git/bitbucket
