Our Team

As part of the All Mines Services Team, the iROC (Integrated Remote Operations Centre) is a critical multi-year cross functional deployment of process and business system improvements integrated with technological implementation identified within the IT roadmap. The iROC Project brings forward both productivity and production improvements at our deployment sites.

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking an iROC Project Specialist (Autonomous) to join our iROC – All Mines Services Team in Sudbury. This is a permanent position.

The Specialist, iROC Project (Autonomous) is responsible to develop, deliver and lead the deployment of autonomous technologies, infrastructure, systems and processes within Ontario Mines. Fundamental for the application and continued use of autonomous enabled equipment within Ontario mines, this role is accountable to establish the autonomous program and integrate its application within the iROC vision.

The position is accountable for:

  • Ensure autonomous program and systems comply with Vale's safety policies, regulations and legislative standards as well as Vale's IT policies, regulations and standards
  • Ensure autonomous program deployment is adhering to and incorporating Vale's VPS business process standards, procedures and using system applications and tools in an effective and efficient manner.
  • Responsible for leading project management activities (planning, scheduling, delivery, reporting, budgeting and risk mitigation) for successful delivery of autonomous technology program. Accountable to regularly review deployment schedule seeking opportunities to safely accelerate implementation.
  • Responsible for creating and updating procedures, training material and other documents related to the autonomous program implementation.
  • Responsible for engagement with key stakeholders at deployment sites (Process Superintendents, Supervisors, Operators, etc.) ensuring a safe, positive, productive, sustainable and integrated infrastructure for a successful autonomous program implementation.
  • Coordinate with IT, Original Equipment Manufacturers and external vendors for system troubleshooting to solve technology concerns, system expansions, system improvements and personnel training.
  • Responsible to design and establish sustainable structure and oversight of implemented autonomous systems and equipment (includes personnel training systems, maintenance schedule of technology, production reports, integration within iROC, etc.)
  • Develop knowledge and skills to serve as subject matter expert (SME) of autonomous technology providing in-depth knowledge of autonomous system communication, server, software, connectivity, installation, troubleshooting, and operation requirements.
  • Facilitate team collaborations, knowledge transfer sessions and workshops to share insights and best practices within the business.

About You

Education:

  • Strong knowledge and experience in underground mining operations with post-secondary education in a mining related discipline.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 11 years of experience in a similar role (implementing technology for application within mines).
  • Experiencing and knowledge of underground mine processes, safety regulations, procedures and protocols for best application of autonomous technologies and systems
  • Leadership experience in underground mine operation preferred.
  • Experience in project management preferred.

  • Personal commitment to safety and risk management
  • Project management knowledge and experience
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (oral & written)
  • Subject Matter Expert (SME) and proven experience in implementing autonomous systems for underground mining (preferred)
  • Strong understanding of technology systems, software, and integration methodologies
  • Facilitates changes, with a focus on core business outcomes.
  • Change management knowledge and/or training
  • Ability to influence without authority and work with different teams
  • Ability to vision, develop and establish processes, documentation and toolsets for operational use
  • Excellent working knowledge and use of all Microsoft Office applications Ability to influence without authority.
