Our Team:Creighton Mine is an underground nickel, copper, and PGE mine located in Lively, Ontario, and is home to over 400 full-time employees, as well as the world-class science facility SNOLAB. Producing at depths of over 8400 feet, we are one of the deepest nickel mines in the world.
The Opportunity:We are currently seeking an Superintendent, Operations to join our Creighton Mine team in Sudbury, Ontario. This successful candidate will be responsible to manage the shaft, surface area, as well as underground crushing, supplies and ramp maintenance. This is a permanent position.Reporting to the Mine Manager, the Operations Superintendent's primary purpose is to safely deliver on production commitments, and to implement, manage, and coordinate continuous improvement, corporate, and strategic projects. You will be a key member of the team, who will be fully integrated with the operating, maintenance, and technical services teams. The position will allow opportunities to strategically improve the safe and efficient production at Creighton Mine.Additionally, in this position you will:
  • Work on site from Monday to Friday.
  • Audit and analyze systems within the area(s) of accountability to achieve the following outputs:Zero harm to employees, the business, the environment, and the community.
  • Provide the required direction and change management skills to develop and implement the required tactical and strategic projects to attain the required.
  • All projects must focus on improving business systems and processes and aligning best practices to improve safety, quality, production, and cost performance in the short and long term. Ensuring all activities follow VPS (Vale Production System).
  • Audit and analyze KPIs and trends in safety, maintenance, cost, quality, and schedule compliance.
  • Develop and implement actions to address common cause variances or continuous improvement opportunities, with a focus on optimal resource allocation while meeting the quantity and quality output requirements of the crews.
  • Be a key driver in change management, working with crews, supervisors, and superintendents to implement projects and reinforce the correct processes and projects, and champion Vale values
  • Provide performance feedback to team members, coach, and counsel employees on the standards of behaviour, and take corrective action as required.
  • Contribute to the implementation of new systems/processes and provide guidance, auditing, mentoring, and analysis support to the management team.
  • Work with the HSE Committee to develop actions to improve safety, health, and environmental performance and verify compliance with established Service Level Agreements (SLA) and required standards.
About You:Education:
  • Strong knowledge and experience in underground mining operations with post-secondary education in a Mining related discipline.
Experience:
  • Experience in lateral development is required.
  • Minimum 10 years of mining experience in a similar role is preferred.
Skills:
  • Must have strong organization and time leadership skills.
  • High initiative and can self-direct to accomplish goals with minimum supervision.
  • Robust oral and written communication skills.
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
  • Knowledge in SAP.
  • Strong drive for results.
  • High level of confidence speaking to crews and supervisors.
  • Team collaboration and building relationships with key stakeholders.
