We are currently seeking an Accounting Clerk, Trust to join our Finance team based in the Firm's St. John's, NL office.

Type of Position: Full-Time, Permanent

Close Date: July 19, 2024


The Opportunity:

An integral member of the Firm's Finance team, the Accounting Clerk, Trust, is Responsible for the timely and accurate processing of all trust account transactions at Stewart McKelvey's St. John's, NL office.

In this role, the successful candidate will be responsible for processing trust deposits, conducting withdrawals and daily bank activity in accordance with provincial trust regulations, investing and managing trust funds in daily interest accounts or term deposits, as well as assisting with the processing of demand cheques & coordinating payments.

The Accounting Clerk, Trust will also be tasked with inputting and processing various transactions through an electronic payment system, maintaining and balancing petty cash on a weekly basis, preparing monthly reports, proactively monitoring trust funds with no activity, and assisting with the monthly preparation of bank reconciliations and trust checklists.

Additionally, the Accounting Clerk, Trust will attend to inquiries from clients, banks, lawyers and staff, collaborate with the firm's AP team to facilitate Visa reconciliations, and assist with the preparation of the annual Law Society of Newfoundland and Labrador Trust Audit.

If you have relevant post-secondary education and/or previous experience in accounting or banking, an aptitude for working with numbers, a high level of attention to detail, and experience with Excel and electronic database management, we want to hear from you! Although not required, previous experience working in a legal practice environment and/or familiarity with trust accounting would be an asset.
