Jump Recruitment, on behalf of our client, The Innu Round Table Secretariat, is seeking a Social Worker to join their team on the Sheshatshiu Innu First Nation in Labrador.
About the Organization:
With leadership from MIFN and SIFN, the Innu Round Table Secretariat works for the collective well-being of the Mushuau and Sheshatshiu Innu. To support Innu children and families, both SIFN and MIFN have established Prevention Services as the agency responsible for developing and delivering Innu child and family support and services. This new, Innu-led prevention agency uses a holistic approach to wellness, rooted in Innu knowledge and culture. The goal is to reduce the involvement of Innu children and families in the current child protection system (CSSD) and to promote family and community health.
Based on Innu knowledge and culture, the Innu Child and Family Prevention Services Agency aims to:
- Reduce the overall involvement of Innu children and families in the child protection system and mitigate the system's impact, especially on children
- Encourage and support family and community health and well-being
- Realize full jurisdiction of Innu child and family services
Job Summary:
This full-time position is based in Sheshatshiu, Labrador, and reports to the Sheshatshiu Innu Team Clinical Manager. With a social work background, you will be part of a larger team of prevention services staff, working as an ally to Innu Representatives and Innu Community Workers. Together, you will develop and coordinate prevention services and activities consistent with the Innu Care Approach, reflecting Innu culture and values.
What We Need You to Bring to This Position:
- Knowledge of Innu culture and the impacts of colonization on Innu children and families, and a willingness to continue to learn and use this knowledge to plan services to meet Innu needs for supportive services
- Ability to work respectfully with Innu children and families in difficult, emotional situations
- Creativity in planning and providing supportive work to help build up others
- Willingness to learn new skills related to your position and grow with your team
Personal Suitability:
- Maintain strong professional standards and demonstrate a willingness to engage in cross-cultural work
- Be dependable and show initiative both individually and in teamwork settings
- Exercise good judgment, discretion, and confidentiality
Qualifications:
- A degree in Social Work and registration with the NLCSW
- 2 years of experience working in an Indigenous community is preferred
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrated understanding of trauma-informed care
- Code of conduct.
