Meridia is happy to partner with Smith + Andersen in the recruitment of a talented engineer to join their team as Project Manager - Mechanical.

Role Description

Located in the Halifax office, the Project Manager - Mechanical will be responsible for handling and executing multiple complex projects. As an integral member of the team, you will act as a technical expert to ensure projects are executed to the highest standards and contribute to the development of efficient and sustainable solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare drawings and construction specifications that guide the successful execution of projects while adhering to quality and safety standards.
  • Engage in both conceptual and detailed design engineering to shape the project's technical aspects.
  • Prepare calculations, select equipment, and assign tasks as needed.
  • Coordinate documents and reports with project teams, review all deliverables for accuracy, manage budgets, and enforce company standards.
  • Act as contract administrator when requested, ensuring timely completion of tasks.
  • Promote and enforce company standards relating to project administration, documentation and processes such as total quality management.
  • Manage drawing reviews, prepare change notices, and address technical and financial queries.
  • Inform the Principal-in-Charge of scope changes and prepare contract amendments.
  • Support accounts receivable, ensure team coordination, monitor project schedules, liaise with consultants and vendors, and organize client meetings and presentations.

Your Qualifications

Within the field of mechanical building services, you have prior project engineering experience and a relevant educational background. You are a natural leader who can work collaboratively as well as you can independently. You are driven by your meticulous work ethic and possess strong oral and written communication skills able to adapt your approach depending on your audience. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the building services industry with a proven track record of successfully executing complex projects.

Your qualifications include:

  • Years of relevant work experience in the field of mechanical building services.
  • Bachelor of Engineering or Applied Science in Mechanical Engineering; Registration or eligibility for registration with Engineers Nova Scotia.
  • A Senior Certified Engineering Technologist with equivalent experience may also be considered.
  • A comprehensive understanding of relevant Codes and Standards, construction project procurement methodologies, and advanced knowledge of provincial building codes, ASHRAE, CSA, and NFPA standards is necessary.
  • Experience in healthcare facilities, including Infection Control Certification (CAN/CSA Z312 and CSA Z32) is an asset.
  • Experience in project management, working on projects from concept to detailed engineering.
  • Ability to work well independently or within a team environment.
  • A proactive approach to tasks and strong initiative.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Flexible and adaptable problem-solving skills.
  • LEED certification / Experience implementing sustainable design (LEED projects) is an asset.
