Our Team

Copper Cliff Nickel Refinery and Electrowinning (CCNR/EW) is integral part of our Sudbury Operations and Vale's long-term operating strategy. The Electrowinning (EW) department, which you will be leading, is made up of a team of Operators, Millwrights and Supervisors who are responsible for processing cobalt and precious metals destined for further refining in Port Colborne and copper which is shipped directed to final customers. You work with a cross-functional team of operating, maintenance and technical personnel to ensure safety, production, cost and quality targets are consistently met.

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Superintendent Process II to join our Copper Cliff Nickel Refinery, Electrowinning Department, in Sudbury Ontario. This is a permanent position.

Reporting to the Manager of CCNR, the Process Superintendent's primary purpose is to safely implement, manage and coordinate the production, operations and maintenance of the Electrowinning Department.

In addition, you will

  • Identify common causes of variation to be corrected in collaboration with area Manager and Supervisors.
  • Work collaboratively with other Process Superintendents, Managers and Supervisors within the functional and cross functional areas of the operation, to address supplier and customer system deficiencies and achieve capital, operating and maintenance project goals.
  • Establish Capital and Operating budgets for the area.
  • Identify and implement safety, cost and productivity improvements.
  • Audit and analyze systems within the area(s) of accountability to achieve the following outputs:
    • Zero harm to employees, the business, the environment and the community,
    • Achieve/exceed production quality and quantity targets while enhancing economic resource recovery,
    • Achieve total product and unit cost, and capital expenditure targets.
  • Lead and ensure Safe Production behaviors are exhibited by team members. Mentor members and take corrective action when vital to address non-compliance.
  • Provide performance feedback to team members and mentor and counsel employees on the standards of behavior and take corrective action as required.
  • Provide input for the development of and to facilitate the execution of the annual and 5-year capital plans and develop the area's annual execution plan and develops area specific goals and objectives to achieve the annual execution plan.
  • Develop weekly and monthly production and/or maintenance plans and update forecasts as the need arises.
  • Escalate when plans and/or forecasts will not be achieved and manage plant activities on the off shifts as the need arises in the on-call scheduling.
  • Supervise area production and maintenance performance, and asset integrity, to confirm that processes are in place to maintain the plant and equipment, sustain/build capability, and to achieve the targets outlined in the Execution plan.
  • Contributes to Asset Integrity reviews and supports development of action plans to address 'at risk' assets.
  • Develop and coordinate bi-annual planned production and/or maintenance periods. The Process Superintendent is responsible for the approval of the work list for their area of accountability.
  • Analyzes in-control processes and identifies common causes of variation and develops action plans to make the necessary changes to correct the common causes.
  • Work with the Health, Safety and Environment Committee to develop actions to improve safety, health and environmental performance.

About You

Education:

  • Post-secondary education in trades, engineering, or related technical area.

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of supervisory and industrial experience
  • Preferred business and process knowledge of hydrometallurgical processing

Skills:

  • Must have strong organization and time leadership skills.
  • High initiative, self-directed to accomplish goals with minimum supervision.
  • Robust oral and written communication skills.
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
  • Strong drive for results.
  • High level of confidence speaking to crews and supervisors.
