Growth Opportunity

As you grow and develop your career here at GBC you can expect to experience growth (Depending on how well you do) into a foreman position.

IS THIS FOR YOU?

People who make the most $$ and are happiest here at GBC do the following...

  • Critical thinking and problem-solving - They come with recommendations and a potential solution when something goes wrong…
  • A coachable mentality - They take feedback onboard, grow and hold themselves to high standards on and off-site.
  • Know that every career has sh!t days and that sometimes we need to dig in to hit milestones - They support the team around them rather than solely look out for themselves.
  • They want to grow with us - They are interested in our growth, and we help them in theirs. They learn new skills and take more responsibility as they grow a career over a few years not a few months.
  • Good at what they do - It should go without saying, but due to the high standards and level of clientele we work with, we're after some of the best. Though you will be doing mostly framing, rough carpentry and ICF, experience and skills in exterior and/or interior finish carpentry, and an eye for detail would be a plus for this position.

THIS ISN'T FOR YOU IF...

After a combined 30 years' experience of our founders in the construction industry, we've noticed that unsuccessful candidates are those who…

  • Don't want to be a team player. We aren't a family who are nice to each other because we must be. We're a team who chooses to perform together and build amazing projects. This means having clear communication, holding good standards and keeping each other honest.
  • Aren't interested in being coached, can't coach others, stuck in 'this is how I've been doing it' mentality. We are a dynamic team where everyone has something to learn and something to teach. We enjoy the respect shared amongst our team members.

Desired Qualities and Experience:

  • 7+ years' experience in construction industry
  • 5+ years' experience in Residential Construction Carpentry
  • 3+ years' experience in Residential Construction Framing
  • Advanced understanding of carpentry & layout work.
  • Knowledge of ICF construction processes would be an asset but is not required
  • Must be ready to work on ICF projects
  • Previous experience as a lead hand; strong team player and desire to grow is required.
  • Experience reading and interpreting blueprints and drawings
  • Superior organizational and time management skills; superior logical-thinking and problem-solving skills; must be a solid active listener and possess solid coaching, team building, leadership, and negotiation skills; must be flexible to task; must possess excellent conflict resolution skills; and effective communication skills, both orally and written.
  • Travel is required between construction sites, for which the candidate will require their own reliable transportation and a valid NS driver's license.
