Evergreen Home for Special Care is a long-term care facility located in the beautiful Annapolis Valley. Licensed by the Department of Health and Wellness, Evergreen provides care for its residents regardless of age, sex, race, creed, and social status.

The facility is comprised of a Children's Centre which is licensed to provide 24-hour nursing coverage for 19 children and a Seniors Centre consisting of 97 residents. All residents receive multi-disciplinary care based on an holistic approach to ensure physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing while recognizing the right to individuality, respect and dignity.

The Seniors' Centre provides care to adults and seniors whose physical, mental and intellectual needs are addressed through qualified nursing care, dietary services and recreational programming within a clean and safe environment. The involvement of families, staff and volunteers contributes to the mission of meeting the needs of all residents of Evergreen.

Evergreen is inviting applicants for the position of Director of Recreation and Volunteers.

POSITION SCOPE:

The Director of Recreation and Volunteers will be responsible for overall planning, implementation and evaluation of a program designed to enhance the psychological, spiritual, physical and social functioning of the residents. As The Director of Recreation and Volunteers you will be in charge of all recreation activities. Continually assess the needs of residents and their families, help to train new staff and volunteers, and oversee the development, planning and implementation of new resident programs.

The ideal candidate will have a broad knowledge of Recreation. You will be a dedicated and experienced leader, having a strong background in senior care, dementia care, assisted living and caregiving. This role requires strong communication skills, compassion and patience. You must be able to develop and maintain close relationships with residents to encourage participation in programs. As well as have excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation / or Diploma in Therapeutic Recreation
  • Current membership in Nova Scotia Therapeutic Recreation Association
  • Minimum 5-7 years of relevant experience
  • Education and/or experience in dementia care
  • Food Handlers certificate (or ability to obtain upon hire)
  • Current CPR and First Aid certificate
  • Valid Class 4 Driver's License
  • Strong knowledge and skill with Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Previous management experience an asset OR Management experience/supervisory skills essential

Hours of Work:

Will vary to meet the needs of the residents

Salary $28.01 - $34.34 / hour
