THE POSITION:

Scotiabank Centre managed by Events East Group is now inviting applications for the position of Maintenance Technician with our Building Services team.

Reporting to the Building Services Manager, Scotiabank Centre, the Maintenance Technician (MT) will be responsible for general maintenance and repairs in all Events East Group facilities, working primarily in the Scotiabank Centre. Tasks can include minor carpentry work, floor and wall repairs, interior finishes, painting, and other maintenance assignments as required.

A primary responsibility for this role is ensuring the snow removal program for the Scotiabank Centre is completed successfully. This includes operating a Skid Steer/Bobcat and coordinating a team of casual labour personnel to remove the snow, ensuring the pathways are clear of ice, snow, and debris.


THE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Regularly communicate with the Building Services Manager throughout the duration of the shift.

Operations:

  • Coordinate casual labour employees during the snow removal process to ensure all activities are completed safely and efficiently.
  • Ensure walk-paths are clear of snow, ice, and debris.
  • Perform general maintenance and repairs in all Events East Group facilities using electrical and non-electrical tools including:
    • Countertops repairs
    • Minor masonry repairs
    • Re-caulking
    • Premium Seating chair repairs
    • Concession canopy cleaning
    • Replacing burned-out lights and re-lamping
    • Repairing walls including patching, and sanding
    • Preparing surfaces for painting and paint surfaces
    • Maintaining doors by inspecting doors and performing routine maintenance
    • Repairing or replacing ceiling tiles
  • Perform general labour duties, such as moving furniture, transporting materials, and installing wall hangings.
  • Maintain facility grounds by clearing drains, weeding planters, and removing debris.
  • Safely set-up and tear-down personal workspaces.
  • Safely operate mobile equipment such as a Skid Steer, forklift, scissor lift, zoom boom, ride-on floor scrubber, electrical pallet jacks, etc.
  • Safely transport supplies using the company truck to and from locations around the city.
  • Follow and complete provided task-lists on daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
  • Complete, sign-off, and return the provided task-list(s) to the Building Services Manager.
  • Inspect facilities and provide completed inspection forms to the Building Services Manager.
  • Perform pre-event facility maintenance audits and fix items as needed.
  • Provide support to the Loading Dock Supervisor by overseeing Loading Dock operations on an as-needed basis.
  • Participate actively in scheduled meetings.
  • Other duties as required.

Physical Resource Management:

  • Maintain tidiness and cleanliness of work and storage spaces by cleaning windows, sweeping and washing floors, clearing and cleaning door thresholds, and other tasks as required.
  • Inspect mobile equipment before use and report issues to the appropriate leader.
  • Monitor salt, paint, battery, and maintenance inventory levels and report buying needs to the Building Services Manager.
  • Audit the AED packs for expirations, missing components, and operability monthly.
  • Monitor the used-needles containers and transport full containers to the local facility disposal site.

Health & Safety:

  • Report all safety hazards to the Building Services Manager as soon as is reasonably possible. Take action to correct the safety hazard if possible and reasonable.
  • Follow all departmental standards and guidelines, job procedures, and equipment operation protocols to continuously ensure the safety of oneself, team members, and clients.
  • Wear and use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required; report any issues or violations onsite to the Building Services Manager.
  • Report any damaged PPE to the Building Services Manager, promptly.

THE PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Experience:

  • Basic math skills required.
    • Grade 12 or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a similar position required.
    • Experience repairing drywall is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the basic use of computers including experience using the Microsoft Suite of products.

Physical Demands:

  • Shifts can be more than eight (8) hours in length and can include overnights, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be available during severe weather conditions that may impact road conditions.
  • Throughout the shift, the ability to meet the following physical demands is required:
    • Stand, walk, and climb occasionally to continually on various flooring and step types.
    • Bend, squat, crouch, and twist minimally to frequently.
    • Reach overhead, forward, and to the side occasionally to frequently.
    • Lift above the shoulder, to the shoulder, and to the waist 5-45lbs minimally to continually.
    • Carry 15-45lbs minimally to frequently.
    • Push and pull 20-50lbs minimally to frequently.
