In our 142 bed facility, care is provided in an enriched housing, an assisted living, and a nursing home setting. We are committed to providing holistic care to the residents we serve.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Recreation Programmer reports directly to the Manager of Recreation and Volunteer Services, and is responsible for the planning and implementation of recreation programs in accordance with Department of Seniors and Long Term Care / GVM policies and procedures. The Recreation Programmer collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to ensure the provision of holistic care to residents.

KEY RESPONSIBILITES/DUTIES:

· Participates in the planning and implementation of regularly scheduled small and large group activities, as well as special events, to meet the needs of all residents

· Creates a well-balanced monthly recreation calendar for assigned unit

· Engages residents one on one in accordance with established goals

· Assists with promotion of upcoming events to residents, staff and families

· Assists residents to and from recreational programs

· Completes initial recreation assessments as well as quarterly evaluations

· Participates in resident multi-disciplinary care conferences as required

· Documents resident participation daily (utilizing computerized charting system)

· Oversees the residents' activities and reports issues / concerns / changes in participation levels or abilities to the department manager. Also responsible for observing and reporting any changes in residents' functional and cognitive behavior to the nurse on duty

· Accompanies residents on recreation based outings

· Provides direction to volunteers and /or students during activity programs and demonstrates related techniques as required

· Assists the Manager of Recreation in maintaining inventory of equipment, tools, and materials by identifying supply needs and reporting malfunctioning equipment

· Uses, cleans, stores and maintains activity equipment and supplies

· Upholds established health and safety guidelines, including all infection control measures

· Performs other related duties as assigned

ABOUT YOU:

· Possess a recognized diploma or degree in Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation Leadership, or comparable discipline

· Minimum of one year related experience preferred

· Experience and knowledge of Alzheimer's Disease and related dementias is a definite asset.

· Resident-centered and dedicated to providing meaningful recreational programs.

· Flexible and able to adapt to changes in daily schedule

· Effective interpersonal, organizational, time management and communication skills

· Able to prioritize work load

· Have the physical ability to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position.

· Able to teach and lead groups of older adults.

· Creative and energetic

· Basic computer literacy

· Musical ability is an asset

· Class 4 driver's license is an asset

· Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team setting
