Burchell Wickwire Bryson LLP (BWB), one of Halifax's leading law firms, is seeking an experienced, highly skilled Property Paralegal to join our Real Property Law Group.

The Property Paralegal will provide legal support to the assigned lawyers and manage complex property transactions from start to finish. Duties of the Property Paralegal include:

  • General administrative duties, including maintaining files (physical and electronic), scheduling appointments, and managing incoming and outgoing mail, e-mail, and telephone calls.
  • Directly communicating (verbally, face-to-face, and in writing) with various parties including clients, real estate agents, lenders, opposing solicitors and their staff.
  • Completing full-cycle real estate transactions with minimal support and guidance.
  • Reviewing and preparing documentation relating to purchase, sales and financing transactions; as well as other relevant real estate matters.
  • Preparing Final Reports to lenders and clients.
  • Preparing documents and forms for submission to the Land Registration Office including paper and e-submissions.
  • Assisting with property migrations, subdivision applications, drafting legal descriptions and performing basic title searches.
  • Maintaining an accurate record of billable time to ensure proper billing.
  • Tracking deadlines, closing dates, and other important timelines and completing timely follow ups as required.
  • Conducting accounting related processes such as depositing funds and requesting trust cheques.

What We're Looking For:

We are seeking candidates who possess the following skills and qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in Paralegal or Administrative training or equivalent knowledge/experience.
  • 3-5 years' prior legal administrative experience, preferably in Real Estate Law.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, strong working knowledge of Property Online, and familiarity with various lender platforms such as FCT/LLC, Telus Assyst & Unity. Experience with ProLaw considered an asset.
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with all team members.
  • Strong analytical skills, problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Proactive attitude.
  • Experience working on fast-paced environment with conflicting priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide superior client service.
  • Strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
