Skills Canada - Nova Scotia (SCNS) is a not-for-profit organization that ignites curiosity and passion by promoting skilled trades, technologies, and career exploration through skill development and competition. We have an energetic and committed team that works hard to deliver quality programs and events to provide engaging learning opportunities for youth throughout the province.
We are hiring 5 Camp Counsellors (contract positions) who will provide a fun and engaging experience with Skilled Trades Camps. 5 week-long camps will be offered across Nova Scotia for youth interested in skilled trades. In partnership with the Nova Scotia Apprenticeship Agency and NSCC, the camps will give hands-on experience in a variety of trades while offering fun and engaging camp activities.
This rewarding position centers around working with youth across the province, equity seeking organizations, and community organizations. The successful candidate needs to share our values and have a demonstrated commitment to the importance of equity, diversity and inclusion.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Program Coordination & Delivery:
- Help plan and deliver 5 camps offered at NSCC locations across Nova Scotia this summer.
- Lead campers
- Facilitate fun activities and keep youth engaged.
- Communicate with parents.
- Ensure safe delivery of programs for youth.
- Assist with camp set up/tear down.
Administration:
- Assist with registration and track attendance.
- Keep track of project spending.
- Perform regular administrative and support duties.
- Provide support to SCNS Summer Camp Project Manager and Senior Coordinator
Our Ideal Candidate Has:
- Experience in working with youth, ideally in a recreational environment.
- Excellent interpersonal skills that lend to building positive relationships.
- Presentation skills and comfort with program facilitation.
- Leadership and collaboration skills.
- Proven ability to take initiative, work independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to take on any task required to ensure the success of events and programs from set up to tear down.
- Proficiency using Microsoft Office 365.
Successful interview candidates will be subject to Child Abuse Registry and Criminal Records checks.
Work Environment
