PAL Aerospace is currently seeking qualified applications for an Engineering Manager. This role is a balanced position where the workload is divided equally between mechanical engineering tasks and managerial duties. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in aerospace mechanical systems or structural assessment, airworthiness certification and have proven experience in team leadership.

Duties and Responsibilities:

As the Engineering Manager, your duties and responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

Engineering duties (mechanical systems, structures and airworthiness certification):

  • Work on individual projects or as part of a group in all areas of aircraft modification and repair projects for wide range of aircraft from normal through transport category fixed and rotary wing.
  • Support in interfacing directly with customers, equipment suppliers, TCCA/FAA/EASA and subcontractors in support of project requirements.
  • Perform on-site engineering support for aircraft modifications, surveys, testing, etc.
  • Effectively communicate with on-site aircraft maintenance team and manage engineering design changes during aircraft modifications.
  • Preparation of engineering and airworthiness documentation from modification conceptualization to final approval.
  • Assist with the training and development of junior engineers including the assistance to generate training materials.
  • Any other duties assigned relevant to the role.

Management duties:

  • Manage and lead the Mechanical and Structures Engineering teams respectively.
  • Actively identify, nominate, mentor and support future delegate candidates.
  • Participate in recruitment activities and selection of new team members to the core engineering group.
  • Fulfill Human Resource activities as it relates to being a manager with direct employee reports
  • Determine and manage your team's workload capacity and maintain awareness of your team's work assignments.
  • Assist in resource allocation meetings to assign your team members to projects based on project task requirements, resource availability and resource capability.
  • Assist and mentor direct reports such as providing technical direction on their assigned tasks.
  • Assist in developing engineering procedures and work?ow processes to improve the engineering groups e?ciencies.
  • Collaborating with other Engineering Managers to support requests and meetings from Senior Director of Engineering.
  • Any other duties assigned relevant to the role.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5 years work experience in a technical role supporting aircraft development, modifications and/or repairs.
  • 3+ years work experience in role managing a technical/engineering team.
  • A bachelor's degree in engineering, preferably Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering or extensive applicable experience will be considered.
  • Knowledge of airworthiness regulations and standards from Transport Canada, FAA and/or EASA and the methods of airworthiness compliance to the regulations is preferred.
  • Direct experience and knowledge in Design Approval Organization (DAO) activities is preferred.
  • Experience with cad software (Solidworks and AutoCAD software packages is preferred).
  • Hands on experience in one or more of the following is required: aircraft structures and stress analysis, mechanical systems and occupancy safety.
  • Proficient with aircraft procedures and publications such as AMM, SRM, AFM, IPC, scheduled maintenance, etc.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills to be able to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong verbal communication, writing and publication skills with a high attention to detail.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate in a team environment with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong management skills such as emotional intelligence, relationship building, strategic thinking, delegating, team building, motivation and conflict resolution.
