About Us

Established in 1990 as the first statutorily-based independent prosecution service in Canada, the Nova Scotia Public Prosecution Service (PPS) operates under the jurisdiction of the Attorney General of Nova Scotia. The Director of Public Prosecutions oversees all prosecutions within this jurisdiction, while Crown Attorneys, reporting to the Director, conduct prosecutions independently of the Attorney General. These prosecutions encompass charges laid under both the Criminal Code and Nova Scotia statutes, including the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

The mandate of the PPS is to ensure fair and equal treatment in the prosecution of offences. The service's Head Office supports approximately 200 employees spread across 14 offices throughout the province.

At the PPS, we strive to create an environment where different perspectives and experiences are not only welcomed but celebrated. We encourage applications from individuals who share our commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility (EDIA).
