Cold Ocean Salmon is searching for a permanent full-time Saltwater Production Manager for Newfoundland. The Saltwater Production Manager is a key member of Cold Ocean Salmon team and will have the primary responsibility for all aspects of saltwater production and operations.

The key objectives of this role are to ensure the production of a superior quality fish product produced in a manner that meets or exceeds the expectations of our customers in terms of quality, size, and farming practices, and to ensure that all farming processes comply with all relevant regulations and standards. Reporting to the Marine Health and Operations Specialist, the Saltwater Production Manager will lead a team of Saltwater site and area managers throughout the South Coast of Newfoundland.

Key Responsibilities:

  • All aspects of saltwater production ensuring that all government regulations and policies that relate to the production of salmon in Newfoundland are adhered to and that the appropriate procedures, protocols and requirements are met or exceeded
  • Responsible for the health and wellness of the fish in the saltwater sites and their biological performance. The Manager will work collaboratively with members of the fish health team and harvest planner to ensure that systems are in place to rapidly identify issues and develop solutions to problems that are identified. The overall objective is to reduce risk, convert feed to biomass, and to deliver a low cost of production
  • Develop quality and size targets within the production strategy of the Company
  • Develop and track operational and production KPIs that support the saltwater operations in Newfoundland. Track operational cost on each sea site and for the whole Newfoundland sea water operations
  • Identify preferred suppliers for critical services and that result in improved services and lower costs
  • Timely presentation and development of reports as required and as they relate to saltwater production
  • Stay current with advances in technology related to saltwater production and operations
  • Ensure adherence to company practices and procedures and develop positive ongoing relationships with all employees
  • Confirm that all necessary training and education of employees is kept current and up to date
  • Prepare staff performance reviews and team development
  • Train, develop, mentor and coach site employees. Identify training needs as required
  • Ensure compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety Regulations and Laws and that all other legislated regulations regarding the safety of our employees are adhered.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Bachelor of Science or equivalent academic qualification or higher, Aquaculture Certificate from an accredited program
  • 10 years related managerial experience
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Excellent Project Management skills
  • Technical competency as it relates to software applications used by the Company
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills including experience in teambuilding and goal setting.
  • Ability to problem solve
  • Class 5 driver's license
  • A combination of education and experience will also be considered
  • Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada
