The FSQ Manager ensures accurate implementation of and adherence to product specifications in the manufacturing operation. The role also serves as a functional lead and is instrumental in leading the Formula Recipe Management process. The position also assists in the effective management of the plant's sanitation program, HACCP, recall program, internal and external audits, and food safety compliance. The role acts as liaison for all Technical, R&D, and Innovation interactions. The FSQ Manager must work a flexible schedule to support FSQ needs and activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensures accurate implementation and adherence to FSQ policies and programs to ensure food safety and compliance with Company policies and Federal and State laws and guidelines.
  • Play an active role in the plant leadership team.
  • Assist in the development and execution of FSQ training programs to ensure proper training of all FSQ personnel.
  • Direct activities of employees engaged in inspection and testing to ensure continuous control over materials, facilities, and products.
  • Participate in new/changed equipment/process projects with Engineering, including conducting risk assessments and monitoring agreed upon mitigations.
  • Lend technical assistance as required to production personnel.
  • Manage held product with authority to disposition appropriately and record accordingly.
  • Serves as functional lead for process optimization using statistical data, including performing design of experiments on the production line and the development of functional process control models.
  • Sets plant FSQ goals and objectives that compliment company policies and goals.
  • Manage Sanitation personnel, set sanitation targets and objectives that complement company policies and goals, and oversee the sanitation program.
  • Manage and perform McCain and customer product cuttings, including held product reviews, for management and plant personnel.
  • Investigate customer and consumer complaints and communicate to Consumer Affairs the investigation results promptly and professionally.
  • Monitor products and processes for conformance to standards, ensure prompt and thorough investigation when product safety may be compromised and minimize the amount of held product.
  • Foster open communication with production, maintenance, and other plant personnel regarding FSQ results.
  • Liaison between corporate R&D team and plant management to ensure efficient handover of new product development, PSTs, and Product Optimization.
  • Monitor suppliers and maintain COAs and COCs according to industry standards.
  • Define/establish departmental overhead budget requirements and spend within the agreed limitations.
  • Assist in the adaptation of new products and new process procedures to production routine.
  • Assist in initiation and implementation of the preparation of new or revised product specifications, process parameters, and procedures.
  • Ensure samples are collected and shipped in an accurate and timely manner when requested.
  • Directly supervise all FSQ and Sanitation employees, including providing development, performance evaluations, training, coaching, discipline, recognition, and leadership as appropriate.
  • Ensure that all employees consistently follow FSQ policies and practices, and promptly address FSQ issues.
  • Maintain line of communication for escalation of FSQ incidents and provide governance and support for decisions even outside of traditional business hours.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Three to five years of experience in frozen food manufacturing operations and/or FSQ experience in food processing.
  • An ability to coordinate technical knowledge with production activities.
  • Proficient use of statistical methods including SPC required.
  • Project Management experience considered an asset.
  • Participation in the continuous improvement process is expected as a member of the leadership team at the facility.
  • Knowledge of root cause analysis tools to be used on mechanical, processing, quality, and food safety issues.
  • Working knowledge of food safety and sanitation principles and practices, computer systems, and production processes and equipment used in the food industry.
  • Prior experience in capital projects is an asset.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Biology, Chemistry, or other science-based field
