Job Description

Psychiatric Nurse II (Opioid Treatment Program Case Manager),
Permanent Full Time, Mental Health and Addictions,
Notre Dame Bay Memorial Health Centre, Twillingate and New World Island Clinic

Definition of work:
The Psychiatric Nurse is an integral member of the Opioid Dependency Treatment Team (ODT) that provides intensive mobile services to individuals experiencing complex substance use disorders and concurrent related complexities of mental health issues/disorders. The position is responsible for providing comprehensive client assessments and support to individuals in establishing personal recovery plans as well as short and long-term goals. The incumbent will assist clients with attending appointments, accessing and taking prescribed medications, educating clients regarding coping with side effects and drug interactions, providing clients with daily living and community inclusion such as assessing physical health, educating clients on substances and their physical impacts on their overall mental and physical health. The incumbent would be expected to complete any training required to allow them to administer Sublocade. The incumbent would also be required to work with the OAT prescriber to ensure compliance with the program including specimen collection when/if required. The successful applicant will consult and work in partnership with local employers, service providers and community agencies in the provision of service to individuals accessing ODT Services. This work is performed independently with strong links to community stakeholders and other staff within the ODT team. The incumbent must operate from a client centered, harm reduction approach.

Required qualifications:
* Undergraduate degree in nursing or a Registered Nursing Diploma from an approved school of nursing, supplemented by a Certification in Mental Health/Psychiatric Nursing from CNA.
* Significant (2-5 years) and current (within the last 5 years) experience in a mental health and/or addictions setting.
* Current registration with ARNNL is required
* Current BLS certification for health care providers from the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
* Knowledge of Substance use and current community mental health assessment and intervention techniques
* Demonstration of strong clinical skills in the areas of crisis intervention and supportive counselling to addictions and mental health clients and their families
* Knowledge of mental illness and addiction from bio-psycho-social perspectives, holistic and community approaches
* Demonstrated ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
* The ability to work shift work and weekends and use of a private vehicle are conditions of employment.
* Consistent demonstration of the core values of NL Health Services: Innovation, Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence (I CARE)
* A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required for this position.
* A satisfactory Certificate of Conduct from the RCMP or local police authority.

Hours of work: 75 hours bi-weekly (Shift work may be required)
Salary: NS-30 ($41.16-$51.24)
