Your Contribution

The Intermediate Hydrogeologist will assist in coordinating and managing hydrogeological projects from initiation to closing by coordinating the field /junior staff assigned, subcontractors involved, supplies required and technical reporting for senior review.

Reporting to the Department Manager, you will support a wide variety of projects in collaboration with the Environmental Team. Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Supervising, mentoring an d coaching junior colleagues in their daily work and reviewing their work product for completeness and accuracy
  • Coordinating and supervision of subcontractors (drillers, excavation operators, chemical laboratories and others)
  • Demonstrating a "Safety-First" focus and acting as a role model to other staff
  • Data interpretation and reporting, including integrating the contributions from colleagues into a high-quality project deliverable
  • Developing robust study designs, conceptual site models, and preparing proposals
  • Acting as a point of contact for clients, with emphasis on building long-term relationships
  • Participating with senior staff in client engagement, business development, and long-term business strategies
  • Applying your specialist knowledge and experience in fields of environmental science and hydrogeology while appreciating the value of multi-disciplinary approaches for problem-solving
  • Management of projects from the proposal stage, work scope development through to delivery and project close-out, including schedule and budget control, client communication, and invoicing
  • Communicate and coordinate with senior environmental project manager/engineer on any assigned task that requires environmental/ hydrogeological input
  • Apply and promote Englobe's health and safety rules

Your Profile

  • Minimum Bachelor Degree in Environmental Engineering, Geology, or related field
  • Licensed or eligible for registration with Professional Engineers Ontario or the Association for Professional Geoscientists of Ontario
  • Previous work experience (5 to 6 years) is preferred from an environmental consulting background. Relevant industry or government experience will also be considered
  • Detailed knowledge and hands-on experience in environmental field investigation and sampling methods, and a thorough understanding of applicable regulations, legislation, and policies (municipal, provincial, and federal)
  • Experience and sound understanding of Environmental Regulations and Acts.
  • In-depth expertise in one or more relevant technical areas such as contaminant hydrogeology including:
    • Groundwater/surface water monitoring program
    • Water balance assessments
    • Groundwater seepage analysis
    • Source water evaluation and development
    • Experience with groundwater and surface water monitoring, sampling, hydraulic conductivity testing, and interpretation.
    • Familiar with short-term dewatering and long-term foundation drainage flow rate estimates.
    • Familiar with pre- and post-development water balance assessment and source water impact assessment and mitigation plan (SWIAMP).
    • Experience with pumping test completion and data interpretation will be an asset.
    • Familiar with Permit to Take Water (PTTW) applications and EASR postings
  • Demonstrated track record of delivering relevant projects or significant components of projects
  • Demonstrated ability for critical thinking and problem-solving
  • Ability to work in a team environment, including leadership of small teams of professionals and technical staff
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and technical report writing
  • Excellent computer application and spreadsheet skills
  • Must have a car and valid G driver's licence
