Child Youth Care Worker B, Temporary Call-In Mental Health & Addictions, Hope Valley Youth Treatment Centre, Grand Falls-Windsor

Definition of Work:

The Hope Valley Youth Treatment Centre is a twelve-bed facility with a mandate to provide in-house addictions, mental health treatment, and withdrawal management services to youth between the ages of 12 and 18 with complex addictions and mental health needs. Services are provided by a multidisciplinary team using evidence-based approaches to the treatment of substance use issues experienced by youth and their families. The Child Youth Care Worker is an integral member of the multidisciplinary treatment team. This position reports to the Child Youth Care Supervisor.
The successful candidate must demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for promoting and supporting person-and family-centered care, demonstrate a commitment to safety and partner with all team members to improve worker and patient safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks and implementing improvements.

The Child Youth Care Worker participates in the development and implementation of therapeutic programs and environments, utilizes daily life events to facilitate change through the development of therapeutic relationships with young people, participates as a member of an interdisciplinary treatment team in the development and monitoring of individual treatment plans, participates in policy development training and program planning, implements the adopted clinical model and monitors fidelity to the model and assists in maintaining the health of youth by monitoring the physical condition of the youth as necessary and dispensing medication as required.

The Hope Valley Treatment Centre is home to a therapy dog which is often used as part of therapeutic programming for clients. Employees will have regular contact with the therapy dog and will share responsibilities associated with the care of the dog.

Required Qualifications:

* Graduation from high school with a diploma recognized by the Newfoundland and Labrador Department of Education and Early Childhood Development.
* Two-year diploma or degree in Child and Youth Care, or a Bachelor's Degree in the Social Sciences is required.
* A minimum of two years within the last five years' experience working with youth with substance use and/or complex mental health issues.
* Current First Aid/CPR.
* Training in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention for children and youth in care.
* Training in suicide intervention.
* Demonstrated strong interpersonal communication skills, team building and collaboration skills, as well as networking and time management skills.
* Demonstrated knowledge of a variety of intervention techniques including emerging evidence-based clinical practice.
* Satisfactory Child, Youth and Family Services records check.
* A valid driver's license.
* Consistent demonstration of the core values of NL Health Services: Innovation, Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence (I CARE).
* A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required for this position.
* A satisfactory certificate of conduct from the RCMP or local police authority.

Preferred Qualifications:

* An undergraduate degree in child and youth care.
* Demonstrated proficiency with computers, relevant computer software and accessing internet resources.
