Physiotherapy / Occupational Therapy Support Worker

Labrador-Grenfell Health is responsible for a full range of services including community health, long-term care and acute care for Northern Newfoundland and all of Labrador. Labrador-Grenfell Health operates accredited facilities including three hospitals, in St. Anthony, Happy Valley-Goose Bay, and Labrador City, three community health centers, 14 community clinics/nursing stations and three long term care homes.
The Physiotherapy/Occupational Therapy Support Worker (PTA/OTA) assists the Physiotherapist and Occupational Therapist in the delivery of rehabilitation services to clients by carrying out assigned programs and activities with clients in the hospital and community.
Qualifications:
" Graduation from High School or equivalency;
" Successful completion of a Two-year diploma from a recognized Rehabilitation Assistant Program is preferred; OR completion of a one-year health related certificate and willing to complete a recognized Rehabilitation Assistant Program within a reasonable time frame as determined by the employer;
" Current certification in Basic Life Support (CPR);
" Ability to understand and demonstrate correct body mechanics;
" Knowledge of Physical Therapy or Occupational Therapy;
" Ability to use computer is an asset or ability and desire to complete study program for same;
" The successful applicant will be required to submit a satisfactory certificate of conduct.
Duties: (include but not limited to):
" Carries out individual and group program and activities as assigned by a licensed Physiotherapist or Occupational Therapist;
" Provides and maintains rehab equipment as required for specific client use under direction of PT/OT;
" Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with work facilities and co-workers;
" Organizes and manages time effectively;
" Works with some independence and self initiative;
" Maneuvers heavy equipment, performs lifts/transfers of physically and/or cognitively impaired clients;
" Assists with treatments and assessments as required;
" Maintains a clean and safe environment;
" Maintains accurate workload measurement statistics for all client and non-client related activities;
" All other related duties.
Salary:
" CG-28 of the NAPE-HS salary scale, $25.87 - $28-65 per hour plus the applicable Labrador Allowance.
Hours of Work:
" 75 bi-weekly (Monday - Friday)
