The College of Extended Learning (CEL) is the primary lifelong learning outreach vehicle for the University and carries critical community-building and revenue-generation functions. CEL is an educational entrepreneurial unit of UNB that contributes to the economic, social, and cultural life of the province by providing educational programs and services to a wide spectrum of learners within New Brunswick and beyond its borders. Four programming units and three core services units comprise CEL.

Salary Range: $50,648 - $65,848 per annum
YOUR FOCUS
Reporting to the Manager of Instructional Design & Development, the Instructional Designer (ID) acts as an instructional and design consultant on multiple development projects. The ID works as an integral part of the online development team, increasing its capacity to provide learning design support for both internal and external clients.
- Develop design documents to establish course outlines, goals, and learning objectives.
- Guide content experts on the development of the subject matter required for the course.
- Rewrite instructional materials into professionally engaging instructions for the storyboard stage.
- Utilize text, images, video, and audio to communicate and educate customers.
- Partner with business leaders, subject matter experts, suppliers, and instructional design and e-learning development team members to translate business objectives into effective and engaging learning solutions.
- Collaborate with instructors to determine the assessment strategy.
- Work with e-learning developers to determine an interface design.
- Develop course content in the CEL-adopted courseware development environment.
- Design and implement innovative instructional design projects.
- Create course assets including videos, software tutorials, user guides, audio and video scripts, storyboards, assessments, etc.
- Assist the team in selecting suitable course materials. Ensure course design adheres to standards and quality vision.
- Engage with external clients who are seeking support for their online learning initiatives.
- Provide a quality review of project deliverables.
- Make recommendations for improvements.
- Develop and maintain a course design model.
- Participate in professional development to stay updated with industry trends and best practices.
- Collaborate with peers and experts to exchange ideas and insights in the field.
- Pilot new instructional technologies and LMS utilities as required.
WHAT YOU BRING
- A master's degree in education, instructional design/ technology, computer science, curriculum and instruction, higher education, or related field.
- 5 years + related experience in instructional design, educational technology, training, pedagogy, or curricular development in an educational setting.
- Experience creating learning experiences in a variety of formats and environments for adult learners.

- Experience writing course and/or professional learning content is considered a strong asset.
- Knowledge of instructional design models and experience working with Desire2Learn LMS is considered a strong asset.
