The Painting/Drawing Technician is responsible for the maintenance of the painting and drawing studios (and woodshop facilities as is supports stretcher building). Duties include inventory, preventative maintenance, repairs and purchase of studio equipment and demonstration concerning the proper usage of equipment and facilities to students. The incumbent also ensures the implementation and application of health and safety policies and practices in the drawing and painting spaces.
- Ensures that painting and drawing studios and woodshop are maintained and arranged properly.
- Monitors painting and drawing and woodshop equipment; oversees loans and returns.
- Repairs and inspects studio and woodshop tools and equipment regularly.
- Maintains an inventory of approximately 100 painting easels, 50 drawing easels, mirrors, lamps, heaters, extension cords, props and other equipment.
- Provides support to program area by developing demonstrations for multiple delivery formats.
- Assesses future demand for equipment and advises faculty and/or Division Chair of requirements.
- Purchases equipment and supplies from operating budgets with Division Chair's approval.
- Rearranges studio areas to accommodate course/programming needs.
- Assists with hosting painting and drawing visitors which includes conducting tours, setting up audio visual equipment as required or providing general support as needed.
- Provides general assistance for special events or mounting of student, faculty and/or visitor exhibitions specific to Painting and Drawing area.
A Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts with a concentration of studies in painting and drawing and a Carpenter's certificate or equivalent along with 4 years' experience in a woodworking environment is required (an equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered). Very good interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate effectively are essential and well-developed organizational and time management skills are required. Knowledge regarding health and safety issues, and the ability to integrate evolving health and safety protocols are required. Experience working in a post-secondary educational environment is an asset.
