INSTRUCTOR SCHOOL OF FISHERIES – ELIGIBILITY LIST

DUTIES

In preparation for training requirements for Fall 2022, CBED is creating an eligibility list of qualified instructors to deliver Fishing Masters IV (https://www.mi.mun.ca/shortcourses/transportcanadacourses/) and other industry short courses in locations in Newfoundland and Labrador, Nunavut, the North West Territories. Successful candidates will be required to instruct the following: Chartwork and Pilotage Level 1, Navigation Safety Level 1, ROC-MC, SEN Limited (SEN-L), Ship Construction and Stability Level 1, and General Seamanship (FM4-0).

CBED is also creating an eligibility list for Bridgewatch instructors in Nunavut and the Northwest Territories. Successful candidates will be required to instruct coursework in General Ship Knowledge, Communication Skills, Basic Safety and General Seamanship to prepare individuals for writing their Transport Canada Bridgewatch exam.

QUALIFICATIONS

Fishing Masters IV: minimum possession of a Fishing Masters III Certificate of Competency a diploma of technology or a university degree in a fisheries related field; an equivalent combination of education and training may be considered.

Bridgewatch: Minimum possession of a Watchkeeping Mate Certificate of Competency, a diploma of technology or a university degree in a maritime studies related field; an equivalent combination of education and training may be considered.

Excellent oral and written communication skills and computer skills are required. Proven leadership qualities and the ability to work with a motivated, multi-disciplinary team are also required. This position may require travel within Newfoundland & Labrador, Nunavut and Northwest Territories. Qualification to teach Small Vessel Operator Proficiency and Small Non-pleasure Domestic Vessel Basic Safety would be considered an asset. Previous teaching experience at the post-secondary level is an asset.

SALARY: Commensurate with Marine Institute's Instructors' Collective Agreement
