As Supervisor - Outbound Dock Operations, Evenings, at The North West Company (NWC) you will provide assistance to the shipping department employees regarding the outbound flow of all product commodities. Your Role:
- Support the Manager, Outbound Dock Operations with the traffic flow of goods;
- Perform shipping functions as required to support the team and raise any production issues;
- Ensure all documentation, such as invoices, bills of lading, driver manifests, and other related documents for outbound shipments are completed accurately and forwarded to the appropriate department;
- Delegate tasks, coach, and follow-up with Dock Operations employees; ensure employees are working in assigned areas, provide adequate coverage for all processes;
- Ensure employees are maintaining a safe work environment as per the Health and Safety Legislation by reporting all violations and potential hazards;
- Perform quality control checks and freight inspections as required;
- Follow-up with staff to ensure all outbound products are properly secured and prepared for shipment;
- Locate missing goods and ensure immediate action is taken to resolve any outstanding issues;
- Ensure loaders are stacking and building pallets suitable for the transportation chain;
- Provide best advice on maintaining and improving cost effective ways to load trailers;
- Work with the Outbound Manager to reduce the amount of re-handling of product; and
- Ensure reefer settings are set appropriately for the commodities being shipped; follow up with carriers, loaders and shunt truck drivers.
Desired Skills & Experience:
- Previous warehouse experience involving shipping and/or receiving is required, along with knowledge of standard operating procedures for warehouse operations;
- Experience working with warehouse management systems;
- CITT designation or currently enrolled in a transportation or logistics program is considered an asset;
- Previous leadership experience with the ability to build, lead and develop teams, as well as experience in delegating and task assignment;
- Demonstrated ability to deal with employee concerns in a professional and confidential manner;
- Ability to work quickly and efficiently in a team or independently;
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workloads;
- Customer driven with demonstrated customer service skills;
- Must have forklift certification or ability to become certified; and
- Capable of lifting up to 70 lbs. unassisted on a regular basis.
