This opportunity is with our Good Shepherd - Seniors Support Services


Reporting to the Director of Health Strategy, Seniors, Hospice & Palliative Care, the Program Student Intern will be responsible specifically for assisting the Seniors Support and Seniors at Risk Program. This will include supporting the work of the Seniors at Risk Coordinator with specific initiatives including, funded projects, program evaluation activities, client groups and initiatives and the Elder Abuse Network.

The Program Student Intern is responsible for the demonstration of the Mission, Vision and Values at work at Good Shepherd Centres.

How You Will Make an Impact

All duties and responsibilities are to be carried out in alignment with the Mission, Vision, and Values of Good Shepherd Centres, demonstrating strong leadership and role modelling. Services should be delivered in a dignified, respectful, and culturally competent manner, reflecting the charism of Good Shepherd Centres and an integrated anti-racism/anti-oppression framework.

  • Support resource identification and connection for clients served by the Seniors at Risk program staff
  • Support the coordination of related collaborative meetings
  • Assist the Seniors at Risk Coordinator in the development of Elder Abuse Network.
  • Support the development of the client feedback process for the Seniors at Risk program.
  • Assist in program evaluation activities.
  • Assist in the promotion of the Seniors at Risk program, its staff and community profile through community-based activities and outreach.
  • Assist with special events, as required.
  • To observe all health and safety rules and regulations and to work in a manner that minimizes risk to clients, staff and others as well as to the property of the Good Shepherd Centres.
  • Other tasks, as assigned

What You'll Bring to Our Team

  • Relevant post-secondary education and understanding of the social, psychological and relational aspects of ageing adults. This can include course work focusing on gerontology, social work or other health related studies.
  • Excellent understanding of best practices related to health equity and aging in place
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written. Communication skills in language in addition to English an asset.
  • Mastery of Microsoft Office applications such as TEAMS, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and other applications such as Canva and MS Forms.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize data for basic statistical analysis.
  • Knowledge of approaches used for program delivery at a community-based level
  • Access to reliable transportation.
  • Excellent organizational skills including the ability to adapt in a fast paced and changing work environment.
  • Demonstrated creativity and flexibility in achieving desired outcomes.
  • Hospitable in dealings with clients/public / volunteers / staff, and other key stakeholders.
  • Available and responsive to the needs of others.
  • Respectful, compassionate and empathetic demeanor.

Subject to the requirements of the Human Rights Code, a police clearance report is required to determine the suitability to be employed in a Social Service Agency. It shall be at the sole discretion of Good Shepherd to assess the suitability of employment based on the criminal reference status of the employee.
