Your role at GEI. We are seeking a Senior Practice Leader with a specialization in environmental engineering. The ideal candidate will add technical and business development expertise to our Canadian Region in general, and the Ontario market specifically. Based in Ontario, this Senior Practice leader will be an active partner in the region to support our profitable and growing operations. This role requires a motivated self-starter with knowledge of customers and business environment in the Ontario and other provinces as applicable. This position leads a team to develop, sustain, and grow our business in the Canadian market to achieve growth in revenue and profitability by initiating a specific market plan and strategy working in coordination with the Regional Growth Leader, Regional Operations Managers, Practice Leaders and Branch Managers. A key part of the role will be to provide project support and management, business development, staff leadership, and staff mentorship. The role is considered as a blend of pursuing and leading the delivery of specific projects, leading and helping us in developing the required local resources and expanding our project delivery capabilities with a significant emphasis on the environmental markets in the geography and the growing our environmental resources in Canada. The Senior Practice Leader will work with project managers, office managers, and the leadership team from across the Region. The Practice Leader establishes and maintains a leadership team to accomplish these goals by:- Achieving high levels of client and employee satisfaction.
- Being accountable for the practice's financial and operational performance.
- Responsible for the acquisition, engagement, and retention of top talent, including overseeing employee development, training, and mentoring.
- Assuring that QA/QC procedures are well understood and consistent in execution.
- Developing strong practice plans, business development plans, and business development teams (account or market focused).
- Demonstrating a high degree of creativity, foresight, and mature judgment in planning, organizing, and guiding the activities of the practice.
- Reporting to the Canada Region Leadership.
- Grow our environmental practice in Canada by developing new and existing clients and markets while cross-selling GEI's other core business areas including geotechnical, water resources, waterfront, ecological, and civil consulting.
- Identify and support the recruitment of environmental practice candidates to continue to build GEI's service delivery teams in Canada.
- Help coordinate business development activities within practice; identify key clients / business areas, growth strategy, and capture strategy.
- Provide project management and technical leadership within the Environmental Practice in the Canada region and across North America.
- Maintain high visibility in the marketplace through regular client contact, participation in client-based professional organizations, and attendance and presentations at industry events.
- Lead proposal efforts, presentations, maintain high visibility in the marketplace through regular client contact, participate and encourage active participation in client-based professional organizations, and make presentations at industry events.
- Manage the technical, financial and client relationship aspects of a variety of environmental projects with a geographic emphasis in the Ontario regional markets.
- Undertakes measures that assure the practice meets or exceeds its target revenue and growth goals (with consideration to goals utilization).
- Develops promotion, merit increase, and bonus recommendations in collaboration with Branch Managers.
- Manages and supports professional training, development, and mentoring of branch employees.
- Helps identify and budget for training and seminars both external and internal.
- Engages in self and professional improvement activities to remain aware of technical, business development, and performance improvement advances
- Ensures that project technical excellence is achieved by project employees and implements appropriate training and employee's development solutions when challenges emerge.
- Works within the Branch's, the Region and Company to foster collaboration and sharing of resources and project opportunities.
- Demonstrated experience in the Practice including certifications necessary to effectively build and lead a growing team.
- 15+ years of progressively responsible experience in the practice with significant experience in a project management role.
- Recognized for technical excellence and development of creative and practical solutions.
- Demonstrated entrepreneurial attitude and ability to generate new work and grow the environmental practice with a proven track record of success.
- Coordinate growth of practice across the region. Participate in recruiting efforts and integration of new staff.
- Serve as a role model for leadership, company culture, and values.
- Contribute to strategic planning at the office, regional and North American level.
- Work with marketing and others to develop GEI “branding” within practice.
