The Opportunity
The Land Surveyor provides professional supervision and oversight of various surveying projects within Municipal land development sector. The various types of surveys include strata plans, condominium plans, topographic and rights-of-way surveys, surveys for infrastructure and capital works projects, construction and monitoring surveys, surveys on First Nation lands and many other diverse types of surveys. It is the role and responsibility of the Land Surveyor to be accountable for accurate and timely deliverables to our clients and assume the legal responsibility for all work. As an important member of the COR committee, the Land Surveyor will play a crucial role in staff safety.
The position is ideal for a professional who thrives on challenge, is self-driven and a strong communicator and enjoys working with people within and outside of the organization.
Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Plan, initiate, execute, supervise and deliver a diverse range of survey projects.
  • Lead survey team on projects, communicate scope and scheduling information to team members.
  • Provide guidance, training and mentoring to team members.
  • Prepare proposals and contracts.
  • Work with other Survey Project Managers to co-ordinate, schedule and review the activities of field and office staff.
  • Maintain accurate notes, records, and sketches to document work performed.
  • Manage project billings, expenses, and receivables.
  • Manage project issues.
  • Liaise with both internal and external Project Managers and clients.
  • Develop strong client relations, participate in business development activities including identifying & securing new clients, increase work with existing clients and representing the organization at industry events.
  • Manage client expectations, and ensure project deliverables, schedules, objectives, and budgets are met.
  • Provide information as required by senior management; and,
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications:
  • Commissioned to practice in the province of Alberta.
  • Commissioned Land Surveyor from other jurisdictions with intent to attain ALSA commission will be considered.
  • CLS commission is an asset.
  • Diploma or Degree in Geomatics.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and leadership skills.
  • Valid AB driver's license; and,
  • Proficiency in data processing and software applications (MSCAD, Civil3D, GNSS, processing software and Trimble).
