Who we need

Yorkville University is seeking a Facilities Supervisor to join our Toronto campus team. Reporting to the Campus and Executive Support Manager, the Facilities Supervisor ensures the university campus is safe, clean, efficient, and conducive to the daily productivity and well-being of students, faculty, staff, and guests. You will lead a team of seven Facilities Coordinators and collaborate with a range of departments to support building operations, events, and essential services.

This is a visible and hands-on leadership role that requires strong operational oversight, collaborative communication, and a proactive approach to continuous improvement. You will support the evolving needs of our growing campus, taking ownership of maintenance, vendor relations, and process efficiencies, while fostering an inclusive and motivated work environment.

This is an on-site position based at our Steeles Avenue campus in Toronto, with occasional Saturday availability required.

What's in it for you

Impact. You will directly shape the day-to-day experience of everyone who learns, teaches, and works on campus. Your work behind the scenes will influence safety, comfort, and functionality for all members of our community. This is a dynamic role with meaningful visibility and the potential to elevate operational excellence campus-wide.

Influence. Your voice matters here. You will have the opportunity to contribute ideas, lead change, and build connections across departments. You will inherit a team eager to grow, ready to learn, and motivated by a leader who cares deeply about the student experience.

Career development. Yorkville is a forward-thinking academic institution committed to innovation and collaboration. As a Facilities Supervisor, you will influence facilities strategy, support procurement decisions, and drive process innovation. You will have the chance to grow your skills, your exposure across the campus, and your accountabilities.

As our new Facilities Supervisor, you will:

  • Oversee all campus and office facilities operations. You will implement a proactive maintenance program to ensure optimal performance of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and exterior systems. You will conduct routine inspections and coordinate repairs or upgrades with vendors. You will ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and building codes; conduct safety inspections and address potential hazards. You will maintain an accurate inventory of supplies and align usage with product standards; provide training in safe usage. You will collaborate on emergency response planning and support campus-wide safety initiatives. You will participate in facilities-related projects, including expansions, renovations, and relocations.
  • Lead the team. You will nurture an inclusive and collaborative environment, prioritizing change management, efficiency, and satisfaction. You will meet with Facilities Coordinators on a regular basis to understand their day-to-day tasks, challenges, and goals. You will navigate conflict, remove barriers, and provide coaching and performance management.
  • Support events. You will be on-site to oversee and assist with setups and daily operations in collaboration with internal teams and external vendors to ensure smooth execution of events.
  • Take ownership. You will prioritize the needs of our university community from the newest student to the most senior faculty member. You will troubleshoot, solve, or escalate issues, and implement solutions to ensure students are welcome, safe, comfortable, and happy at all times, in every building on campus.
  • Optimize processes and spending. You will analyze the current state of processes and spending and identify gaps and areas for improvement. You will introduce best practices, efficiencies, and optimizations, guiding change to encourage adoption and engagement. You will set, measure, and analyze metrics to understand performance and make recommendations on skills, tools, and operations.
  • Participate and promote the campus culture. You will serve on committees such as the Joint Health and Safety Committee and the Fire Warden program. You will embrace the university values and inclusive environment, promoting and attending events for staff and students.

You have:

  • The experience. You have facilities management experience in an academic, hospital, manufacturing, or warehouse environment. You bring a supervisory background in a fast-paced setting and understand how to lead with empathy and accountability. You possess working knowledge of building systems, maintenance procedures, and workplace safety practices.
  • The drive. You take ownership. You want to be both autonomous and collaborative, contributing to a team where you are empowered to lead and make decisions. You manage multiple priorities effectively, respond with urgency, and care deeply about the quality of your team's work and its impact on others.
  • The initiative and accountability. You are hands-on, adaptable, and resourceful. You can identify trends, address issues before they escalate, and ensure smooth, efficient operations. You make sound, timely decisions, even in unpredictable situations.
  • The technical skills. You are proficient in Microsoft Office, including Teams and Excel. You can gather, analyze, and interpret operational data. You hold (or are willing to obtain) WHMIS, First Aid, and CPR certifications.
  • The continuous improvement mindset. You are process-oriented and improvement-driven. You have experience analyzing current procedures, introducing efficiencies, and guiding change. You manage projects with confidence and can balance strategic thinking with practical execution.
  • The team management. You know how to lead people. You can schedule and supervise a diverse team, support performance growth, and create a workplace culture that is safe, accountable, and motivating. You are comfortable navigating performance conversations and are committed to building trust and mutual respect.
  • The interpersonal skills. You are an effective communicator who listens actively and collaborates openly.
