MatrixHR is currently seeking an Environmental Coordinator to join our clients team for some very exciting upcoming projects! Reporting to the Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Lead, the Environmental Coordinator will be responsible for conducting a high volume of inspections and monitoring work areas to ensure compliance with environmental regulations at all times.
  • Northern Ontario or Northern Manitoba projects
  • Site-based, rotational basis, fly-in and fly-out, 20/10 schedule mainly
  • Open to junior, intermediate, or senior
  • Projects: Mining projects (mine site development), open pit mining, commercial site development, road construction, crushing projects, site remediation
  • Wage: Negotiable
About the Role:
  • Conduct regular inspections and monitor work areas to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and company policies.
  • Perform biological monitoring programs, including assessments of vegetation, wildlife, and fisheries, ensuring adherence to environmental standards.
  • Collect and analyze water and soil samples to monitor environmental quality.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain environmental management plans, including solid waste and recycling, erosion and sediment control, and emergency preparedness and response plans.
  • Stay current on regulations related to the storage, handling, and containment of fuels and hazardous materials, ensuring proper procedures are followed.
  • Coordinate and report environmental incidents such as spills, ensuring timely response and effective clean-up actions.
  • Assist with Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) procedures on-site.
  • Prepare and submit regulatory reports related to environmental permits, licenses, and compliance requirements.
Requirements:
  • Experience in the environmental field is required.
  • Experience working in the construction industry will be considered an asset.
  • Post-Secondary Diploma or Degree in Environmental Science will be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of the Environmental Act and the Manitoba Fisheries Act is required.
  • Proficient MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) skills are required.
  • Critical thinking and effective decision-making skills are required.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written as well as electronically.
  • Strong accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment is required.
  • Effective time management skills are required.
  • Must hold a valid driver's license.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a drug and alcohol screening and a criminal background check.
  • Must be physically fit to perform the required duties of the position.
