Job Overview:
As a Project Manager, you will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing mechanical projects from start to finish. You will manage budgets, schedules, subcontractors, and client expectations while ensuring compliance with safety regulations and industry standards. This role requires strong leadership, organizational skills, and technical expertise in mechanical contracting.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Planning & Coordination
Lead mechanical retrofit and installation projects from initiation to completion.
Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, and resource allocations.
Work closely with engineers, consultants, and clients to define project scope.
Ensure all work complies with contract documents, specifications, and building codes.
On-Site Management & Execution
Oversee project execution, coordinating with Foremen, Site Superintendents, and field staff.
Ensure seamless integration of HVAC, plumbing, gas fitting, and mechanical systems.
Conduct regular site visits to monitor progress, safety compliance, and quality assurance.
Identify and resolve on-site challenges, ensuring minimal project delays.
Financial & Contract Management
Manage project budgets, tracking costs and ensuring financial accountability.
Review and approve change orders, purchase orders, and subcontractor invoices.
Negotiate with vendors and suppliers to optimize cost and material availability.
Prepare and submit progress reports, financial updates, and closeout documentation.
Safety & Compliance
Ensure all projects comply with WorkSafeBC, OH&S, and Prime Contractor regulations.
Work closely with the Safety Coordinator to enforce safety protocols and conduct risk assessments.
Ensure that Field Level Hazard Assessments (FLHAs) and Toolbox Meetings are conducted regularly.
Communication & Client Relations
Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, consultants, and key stakeholders.
Provide regular project updates, attend progress meetings, and resolve client concerns.
Foster strong relationships with municipal, institutional, and government clients.
Work collaboratively with internal teams, including Service, Estimating, and Operations.
Experience and Qualifications
5+ years of experience in mechanical contracting, HVAC, or plumbing project management.
Experience working as a Prime Contractor on commercial, municipal, and institutional projects.
Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, blueprints, and contract management.
Familiarity with WorkSafeBC, OH&S regulations, and Prime Contractor responsibilities.
Ability to manage multiple projects up to $3M in value.
Experience using project management software (Procore, MS Project, Bluebeam, or similar).
Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and negotiation skills.
Strong command of the English language
Current driver's license
Red Seal Certification in Plumbing, HVAC, or Gas Fitting is an asset but not required.
PMP, Gold Seal, or equivalent project management certification is an asset.
