Smittys Furniture is a third-generation family-owned local furniture store specializing in Canadian-made quality furniture. Our purpose is to inspire connections and create warmth in every home.
For nearly 75 years, Smittys has been a trusted name in home furnishings in Southern Ontario. We value our loyal customer base, as well as our deeply experienced staff, some of whom have been on our team for decades. Our original location was based in Hanover, Ontario, and we are currently operating from 3 locations: Hanover, Barrie, and Kitchener.
Our approach to the market with our primary line of business is to promote and sell the top furniture and mattress brands manufactured in Canada. The majority of our products displayed on the floor are made in Canada.
About the Position
The Unloading Dock attendant supports the team in ensuring that every customer who enters the store is given the best possible customer experience. This position works in partnership with sales consultants and managers within Smitty's and is a key point of coordination. This role greets customers, answering their questions either in person or by phone, and performs all front desk and data entry routines in a timely and accurate manner.
This position is part-time, working less than 32 hours a week, primarily between Sunday and Wednesday.

Your primary responsibilities will be:
Your time will be split between our Unloading Dock store and our Main Showroom, creating a pleasant and professional selling atmosphere by answering the phone and greeting the customers courteously, efficiently and professionally
- When working within the Unloading Dock Store, you will be performing:
- Greet and help customers.
- Learning about new products.
- Maintaining the store, tagging, cleaning, restocking, and updating the website by providing photographs to the Website & Marketing Coordinator.
- When working within the main showroom, you will be performing:
- Additional support around the showroom as needed. I.e., tagging a new sale, unpackaging and pricing products, tidying the showroom, and helping with dcor.
- Coordinate with warehouse and shipping to assist with customer pick-ups
- Reconciliations of all credit card, debit, and cash payments are performed in our company POS system (daily when in the main showroom).
- Provide customers with updates on orders and process payments upon request
Maintain the flow of in-store customer traffic by monitoring the flow of in-store traffic and notifying sales staff accordingly. - Manage incoming email inquiries and live chat inquiries by responding or allocating to sales staff accordingly.
- Other duties as may be assigned.
Your Education, Skills, and Experience:
- Completion of high school and or college certificate or diploma
- 1+ years of experience in a customer service position
- Excellent interpersonal relationship skills,
- Excellent communication (verbal and written)
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple competing priorities
- Basic math and accounting skills
- Proficient in using Microsoft Office products
- Demonstrated strong attention to detail
