We're currently seeking a skilled Tunnel Shift Manager to oversee Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) operations on a tunnel construction project in Toronto, ensuring safety, efficiency, and success during every shift.

Job Overview:
As a Tunnel Shift Manager (TSM) with MGR Workforce, you'll lead TBM operations during your assigned shift, supervising all activities, enforcing safety standards, and responding to underground emergencies. Reporting to the TBM Tunnel Manager, you'll drive shift performance, manage teams, and maintain meticulous records to keep the project on track in a high-stakes environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Verify that all staff and workers follow the latest excavation parameter guidelines.

  • Ensure all shift activities comply with Work Site Safety Plans (WSSPs).

  • Identify and address discrepancies in excavation parameters and surface settlements.

  • Report anomalies and special circumstances to the TBM Tunnel Manager.

  • Take charge during underground emergencies, providing decisive leadership.

  • Guide and support TBM Shift Engineers and Control Room Engineers.

  • Maintain accurate, detailed records of all shift operations.

  • Conduct Daily Activity Briefings (DABs) and shift briefings as required.

  • Ensure sufficient materials and equipment are available for each shift.

  • Oversee regular material testing per project specifications.

  • Manage and supervise subcontractors involved in TBM operations.

  • Foster the professional growth of team members through mentorship.

  • Take ownership of construction risks and participate in risk assessment meetings.

  • Champion health and safety (H&S) protocols, setting a positive example and reporting concerns.

  • Liaise with staff and workers to manage workload, gather production feedback, and resolve H&S issues.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 8 10 years of experience in tunnel construction operations, ideally with TBM projects.

  • Professional Engineering Designation (P.Eng) in Ontario preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of Canadian tunnel construction codes, regulations, and safety protocols.

  • Proven ability to lead and supervise teams in a fast-paced underground setting.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with crew, engineers, and management.

  • Sharp problem-solving and decision-making skills to handle unexpected challenges.

  • Meticulous attention to detail with a commitment to accurate project documentation.

  • Unwavering dedication to health and safety, promoting a safe work culture and enforcing policies.

  • Proficiency in construction software (e.g., MS Project, AutoCAD, or similar) for data recording and reporting.
